Deciding on the location of your next travel adventure can be a daunting task. With so many incredible countries and cities to choose from, it can be difficult to narrow it down. But if you are looking for exotic adventures, great food and friendly locals then look no further. Continue reading to discover three of the best reasons why Fiji could be the perfect choice for your next holiday. Be warned, this might just make you want to hop on the next flight to the South Pacific.

Fiji

1. The people

The people of Fiji are world-renowned for being a friendly bunch. Known for their happy demeanour and welcoming attitude to tourists, it is easy to see why Fiji wins the title of ‘Happiest Country in the World’. Most native Fijians are more than happy to engage with tourists, so you can always be sure of a smiling face when visiting any of the local attractions.

Community plays an exceptionally important role in the Fijian way of life, with close-knit villages forming the backbone of their society. The cultural traditions and customs of this small island can sometimes be difficult for foreigners to navigate; for instance, while walking through a village it is deemed impolite to have bare legs/shoulders, wear a hat or to carry a bag from your shoulder. So, make sure you do a bit of research before getting to Fiji so that you don’t end up offending the locals with your fashion crimes!

Fiji

2. The food

Food in Fiji is quite simply incredible. There are two main types of food for you to indulge in, depending upon how adventurous you are. Indigenous or traditional Fijian cuisine is normally based around seafood and is generally mild in terms of its spiciness. On the other hand, Fijian Indian cuisine is full of spices and chilli, so perhaps not for those who have sensitive tummies.

With all the food choices on offer, it can be hard to know where to start. For those who want to begin a bit more gently, cassava chips are a great option! Cassava is a starchy vegetable, very much like potatoes, but with a chewier texture. Most restaurants offer cassava which has been cut, boiled and then either fried or oven-baked to make tasty chips. These can be eaten as a side dish or as a main, depending on the portion size. Try it with some local dip, and you will be good to go.

Fiji

3. The adventure

Fiji is a beautiful, exotic destination packed full of potential adventures. Whatever you love doing, whether it’s sunbathing, snorkelling, diving, treetop climbing, golfing or surfing – there will be an opportunity to do it in Fiji. Fiji is an especially good choice for families, too – as packing in lots of family-friendly activities not only means creating memories that will last a lifetime, but it also means kids will be exhausted and ready for bed by the time you get back to your accommodation. This will give adults the opportunity for some well-deserved rest and relaxation!

But Fiji is also a perfect destination for those who are looking for a quieter time, too. That’s the beauty of Fiji: it’s versatility. Other travellers, who may be looking for a holiday with less adventure, will also find exactly what they’re looking for here. Fiji’s languorous stretches of beaches are simply ideal for lazing the day away with a good book by your side.
