Why Italy, With Us

A personally selected Italian villa, not a marketplace listing.

Haute Retreats is an award-winning luxury villa rental and concierge brand — founded in Italy in 2016. Every Italian villa in our collection is personally reviewed, vetted and selected by our team, with key properties visited directly by our Italy specialists. Many include private chef, butler and housekeeping; others are designed for arrival-ready privacy. We confirm exactly what's included for your villa, before you book.

What sets us apart is the people behind the planning. You speak to a single Italy specialist from inquiry to return home — not a chatbot, not a call centre. We curate a tight shortlist suited to how you actually want to spend the week, then arrange everything around it: chef preferences, yacht charters in Sardinia, wine days in Tuscany, drivers, transfers, restaurant reservations and the small details that make the difference.

Plan Your Italian Villa Stay

The questions our specialists hear most

Direct answers from our Italy team — written for travellers, not for search engines.

What are the best areas in Italy for a luxury villa?

Six signature regions stand out for luxury villa rentals. Tuscany for wine country and slow travel near Florence and Siena. Lake Como for historic lakeside palazzos. The Amalfi Coast (including Capri, Positano and Ravello) for cliffside drama. Sicily for the deepest food and history. Umbria for the quieter, more authentic countryside of central Italy. Sardinia for beachfront and yacht-ready summers. Tuscany and Umbria tend to suit families and weddings; Lake Como and the Amalfi Coast suit honeymoons and milestones; Sicily and Sardinia reward returning travellers who want food, sea and depth. Puglia is available in a more limited, boutique selection for travellers seeking masserie and Adriatic coast stays.

Are luxury villas in Italy fully staffed?

Many are — but not all. In our Italy collection, selected villas come fully staffed with a chef, butler, housekeeper and sometimes gardener and driver. Others include daily housekeeping only, with chef and additional staff arranged on request. Inclusions are confirmed per villa before booking, so you know exactly who is on property and during which hours.

Do Italian villas include a private chef?

A growing number of our Italy villas include in-residence chef service — either as part of the rate or arranged on request with transparent pricing. Daily breakfast is most common; full-day chef service (lunch and dinner with custom menus) is available in most fully staffed villas. For wine country and Sicily, we strongly recommend chef service: it transforms the trip.

How far in advance should I book a luxury villa in Italy?

Peak summer (mid-June to early September): book 9–12 months ahead for the best villas, especially in Lake Como, Amalfi, Capri, Sardinia and Sicily. Tuscany and Sicily in May, June, September and October: 6–9 months. Weddings and large groups: 12–18 months. Last-minute availability does happen, particularly in shoulder season; our specialists can usually find something with 4–8 weeks notice.

Which Italy villa destination is best for families?

Tuscany leads for multi-generational and family stays — large estates with grounds, pools, often a tennis court, and easy day trips to Florence, Siena and the coast. Umbria is the quieter inland alternative, with stone farmhouses, gentle pace and excellent value. Sardinia is the beach option — turquoise water, beach clubs and villas a short walk from the sand. Sicily works beautifully for families who want depth alongside the beach — food, history and volcano views in one trip.

Which Italy villa destination is best for weddings or milestone celebrations?

Tuscany is the world's most-requested luxury wedding destination — estates licensed for civil ceremonies, with chapels, gardens and dining terraces. Lake Como for grand, photogenic palazzo weddings. Umbria for intimate countryside celebrations, and the Amalfi Coast for cliffside ceremonies with the Mediterranean as backdrop. Puglia masserie are available subject to availability. Our team coordinates with planners or runs the planning end-to-end — chef, florals, transport, reservations and the day itself.

What is included with a Haute Retreats Italy villa rental?

Every villa includes private use of the property and its grounds, a dedicated specialist before and during your stay, and 24/7 concierge support. Most include daily housekeeping. Fully staffed villas additionally include chef, butler and sometimes driver. Optional inclusions arranged on request: yacht charters, private chefs, wine tastings, cooking classes, in-villa spa, drivers, restaurant reservations, helicopter transfers. Inclusions vary by villa and are confirmed up front.

Why book a villa in Italy instead of a hotel?

An Italian villa gives you the whole house, the grounds, the pool and the staff — not a suite shared with strangers. For groups of six or more, a fully staffed villa typically costs less per person than the equivalent five-star resort, with more space, more privacy and meals prepared in-house. For families, milestones and multi-gen trips, the trade-off is clearly in favour of the villa.

How much does it cost to rent a luxury villa in Italy?

Rates vary significantly by villa, season, size and staffing. As a guide: Tuscany and Umbria start around $2,500–$4,000 per night for mid-size staffed villas, with grand estates from $8,000+. Lake Como, Amalfi and Sardinia in peak season run $6,000–$25,000+ per night for the most photographed villas. Most stays include private use of the villa, daily housekeeping and concierge support; chef, butler and additional staff may be included or arranged depending on the property. City tax, final cleaning, food and beverage, security deposits and special-event fees may apply — we quote everything transparently before booking.

From the Founder

"We started Haute Retreats in Italy because Italy is what we know."

I founded Haute Retreats in 2016 to do one thing well: match people with the right Italian villa, then plan everything around it. Our team is based in Italy, we know every region in person, and every villa we propose has been personally reviewed and selected by our specialists.

How It Works

From first call to keys in hand

A single Italy specialist handles your trip from inquiry to return home.

01

Tell us how you travel

Share dates, party size and what matters — privacy, dining, families, weddings. We listen, then propose.

02

A curated shortlist

Within 24 hours, three to five villas chosen for you — never the full catalogue. Real opinions, not algorithms.

03

Plan the experience

Chef preferences, yacht days, wineries, drivers, reservations — built around your stay before you arrive.

04

Arrive & unwind

A specialist on call 24/7 throughout your stay. Your only job is to enjoy the villa.

When to Go

Italy through the year

Region by region, the seasons our specialists prefer — and why.

May & June

The sweet spot

Long days, wildflowers, manageable crowds. Tuscany and Umbria are at their best. Lake Como just warming up. Book 6 months ahead.

July & August

Beach & lake

Sardinia, Amalfi, Lake Como, Sicilian coast. Hot, busy, glamorous. Reserve 9–12 months ahead and expect peak rates.

September & October

Harvest season

Wine harvest in Tuscany and Piedmont, warm sea still in the south. Quieter, lower rates from late September, our specialists' favourite.

November–April

Off season

Tuscany has a winter beauty (and Christmas in Florence). Lake Como villas largely close. Best value if you don't need the sea.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to rent a luxury villa in Italy?
Rates start around $2,500 per night for mid-size staffed villas in Tuscany or Umbria, and can exceed $25,000 per night for grand lakeside palazzos on Como or beachfront Sardinia estates in August. Most of our Italy collection sits between $4,000 and $12,000 per night, fully staffed.
Is breakfast included?
In most fully staffed villas, daily breakfast prepared by the in-residence chef is included. In partially staffed villas, breakfast supplies are typically pre-stocked. We confirm exactly what's included per villa before you book.
Can you arrange a private chef for additional meals?
Yes. Additional chef-prepared meals, multi-course tasting dinners, themed regional menus and cooking classes with the chef can all be arranged. Pricing is transparent and quoted up front.
Do you offer trip planning beyond the villa itself?
Yes. Our concierge plans drivers, transfers, restaurant reservations, yacht charters, wineries, cooking classes, private museum access, in-villa spa, helicopter transfers and milestone events — all built around your villa stay, before you arrive and during.
What is your cancellation policy?
Each villa carries its own owner-set cancellation terms, which we share clearly during the booking process. We strongly recommend travel insurance and can suggest providers who specialise in high-value villa rentals.
