Casa Alegria
Description
Casa Alegria is the type of location that appears like a mirage on the horizon.
Tucked inside the ultra-exclusive Caleta gated community within the Palmilla resort, this five-bedroom villa feels both deeply private and perfectly connected to everything that makes Los Cabos unforgettable. From its tiered terraces you look straight out over the Sea of Cortez, with the legendary One&Only Palmilla and one of the region’s finest swimmable beaches just moments away.
Architecturally, Casa Alegria blends the soul of a Spanish Colonial hacienda with the romance of a Tuscan villa and the comfort of contemporary design. Stone columns, carved woodwork and beamed ceilings frame generous, light-filled spaces, while large fold-back glass walls open the main living areas to the sea breeze so you can move effortlessly between indoors and out. Sunlight pours in up to the vaulted ceilings, softening the lines of the stone and tile and giving the whole house a warm, welcoming glow.
The striking two-story pool and hot tub outside, which are connected by a tumbling waterfall and a broad staircase that seems almost theatrical at night, are the focal point of the villa. Both tiers of the pool are surrounded by expansive terraces lined with cushioned loungers and shaded sitting areas, so each guest can claim a favorite corner—quiet reading spot in the morning, sundowner perch in the afternoon.
A barbecue and outdoor kitchen, along with a generous alfresco dining table, make long, late dinners under the palapa feel completely natural, while the telescope on the terrace turns the night sky into its own private show. While adults often stay with one more drink to “watch the stars for five more minutes,” children are drawn to the pool and foosball table.
Inside, the main great room is designed for gathering. A large dining table anchors the space, equally suited to relaxed family breakfasts and chef-prepared tasting menus. The fully equipped kitchen features modern appliances, a central island with leather-topped stools, and rich dark cabinetry that gives the room a refined, residential feel rather than a generic rental vibe. You get exactly what you want in one of the most sought-after Los Cabos villas when the glass doors are opened, transforming the kitchen, dining room, and terrace into one indoor-outdoor living space.
The five suites at Casa Alegria are intended to be personal havens. For families with teenagers or close friends traveling together, three bedrooms have king beds and two have two queen beds each. Every bedroom has its own en-suite bathroom, and several open directly to terraces or enjoy wide-angle ocean views so you wake up to the glow of the Sea of Cortez. Cool stone floors, handcrafted Mexican textiles and carefully chosen art pieces keep the atmosphere rooted in place while still feeling luxuriously polished.
From a practical standpoint, the villa is set up for easy, stress-free living. A one-way airport transfer from Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) is included in your stay, so your first impression of Casa Alegria is just getting into a private car and driving toward Palmilla while taking in the desert-meets-sea scenery.
Depending on traffic and time of day, the drive from SJD to the Palmilla community takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes along the Transpeninsular Highway, with the final approach on smooth, well-maintained paved roads through the gated resort community. Haute Retreats vacation planners can arrange additional services—from in-villa private chefs and grocery pre-stocking to yacht charters and spa appointments—so you can treat the villa as your own small resort.
One of Casa Alegria’s greatest advantages is its location. The One&Only Palmilla, a 27-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course, and the Blue Flag-certified Playa Palmilla, one of the most stunning and swimmable beaches in the area, serve as the focal points of Palmilla, one of Los Cabos’ most upscale communities.
From the villa you are a short stroll or quick golf-cart ride from the sand, where calm waters invite morning swims, paddleboarding and family beach days. Slightly further along the corridor, Chileno Bay and Santa Maria Beach offer excellent snorkeling in marine-protected coves, while the marina at Cabo San Lucas, about half an hour away by car, is your jumping-off point for sunset cruises to El Arco or deep-sea fishing days in season.
Even off the beach, Casa Alegria places you close to some of Baja’s most interesting food and culture. Within a short drive you can be wandering the cobblestone streets of San José del Cabo’s Art District on Thursday night Art Walk, visiting galleries and sipping mezcal under the lanterns, or heading into the foothills to dine at Acre or Flora Farms, where the menus change with the garden and dinners stretch into evenings under the trees.
Golfers will find the Palmilla Golf Club just minutes away, with three distinct nine-hole layouts that combine desert, arroyo and ocean views; spa-lovers will gravitate to the One&Only Palmilla Spa, where treatments inspired by Mexican healing traditions are a serene counterpoint to days in the sun.
Nearby activities, distances and practical details
Palmilla Beach: Casa Alegria sits within the Palmilla Caleta community just above Playa Palmilla, one of Los Cabos’ rare swimmable beaches. From the villa, it is roughly a 3–5 minute drive or a short walk or golf-cart ride of about 0.1 miles to the sand, where you will find calm waters, beach facilities and a protected cove ideal for families. Approximate beach coordinates: 23.075° N, 109.711° W, directly off the Palmilla exit on Carretera Transpeninsular between San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas.
The 27-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature at Palmilla Golf Club Following the internal resort roads to the golf course entrance close to the One&Only Palmilla, Palmilla Golf Club is about a five-minute drive from Casa Alegria. Expect a driving distance of about 3–4 km, with easy paved access suitable for standard sedans or SUVs; tee times are strongly recommended in peak season.
San José del Cabo Art District: About 10 to 15 minutes’ drive east along the corridor is the historic center of San José del Cabo and its Art District, which is home to the renowned Thursday evening Art Walk from November to June. From Casa Alegria you rejoin the Transpeninsular Highway and follow it toward downtown; parking garages and street parking are available around Plaza Mijares and the surrounding galleries. This is an easy trip by private transfer or taxi, and still manageable for guests who prefer to rent a car, as roads are fully paved and well signposted.
Logistics and arrival: Los Cabos International Airport (SJD), which is about 17 miles from Palmilla, is the most practical entry point. Depending on the time of day and traffic, the drive to Casa Alegria usually ranges from 20 minutes in off-peak hours to around 30–35 minutes at busier times. The route is entirely paved, and we recommend a pre-booked private SUV or van, especially after a long flight or when traveling with family and luggage; your stay at Casa Alegria already includes a one-way arrival transfer to simplify the journey.
Unlike many Los Cabos villas, Casa Alegria offers ultra-exclusive privacy in Caleta Palmilla, a rare swimmable beach just a short distance from your front door, and a dramatic two-story pool terrace that feels like your own boutique resort with a view of the Sea of Cortez.
