Casa Ceiba
Description
When you open the door, the Pacific responds—low, steady, elemental—and Casa Ceiba gradually reveals itself. This contemporary, minimalist haven by renowned Mexican architect Diego Villaseñor is perched high on a Costa Careyes headland between Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo.
It features soft curves and whitewashed planes that let the horizon, light, and breeze speak for themselves. The terraces blend into the sky to the point where morning coffee feels suspended above the ocean, the rooms flow like the tide over sand, and the arches frame blue without fuss.
Here, you move at the speed of the sea: leisurely swims in an infinity edge that seems to merge with the water below, a stretch in the private yoga studio while the palms speak in rustle and shade, friendly sets on the tennis court of the estate, and, at the end of the day, a climb to one of two rooftop terraces for a full 360° view of the jungle, coastline, and a sun that sets like a ritual you’ve learned by heart.
Casa Ceiba was created for individuals who value ease and style equally. Everyone claims a haven thanks to the seven bedroom suites and ten bathrooms; linen keeps cool against sun-warmed skin; shuttered windows allow you to adjust the trade winds when you want to live outside and seal the room when you want the quiet of climate control. The colors belong to the Pacific and the Sierra because the color scheme is straightforward: white, sand, and light wood.
Dining takes place wherever the atmosphere calls for it, from a rooftop where candles cast warm halos in the darkness to a shaded table catching the breeze. A chef-capable kitchen hosts lunch for freshly caught dorado and late-evening mezcal tastings. Your hours expand as a true vacation should thanks to a discreet in-house team that takes care of the scaffolding of the stay, which includes thoughtful provisioning, daily housekeeping that seems to happen in between footsteps, transfers, and day plans organized with a few words. Careyes provides the same level of seclusion and elegance translated into Pacific drama for tourists looking beyond the Dominican Republic’s Casa de Campo villas and yearning for a more untamed, cliff-edge canvas.
It’s easy and beautiful to get here. Depending on daylight and traffic, it will take approximately 90 to 120 minutes to travel along Highway 200 from Manzanillo–Playa de Oro International (ZLO); from Puerto Vallarta (PVR), the drive takes approximately 2.5 to 3.5 hours on a winding coastal road with breathtaking views.
The final one to two kilometers into the Careyes enclave are narrow to well-maintained cliff and jungle lanes; for comfort and visibility, it is best to drive in daylight in a mid-size SUV. The entire route is completely paved. La Manzanilla (kayaks, mangrove boardwalk, small markets) is located 40–50 minutes up the bay; Barra de Navidad (banks, marina, broader shopping) is 60–75 minutes depending on the hour; groceries and a pharmacy counter in Chamela are approximately 10–15 minutes away by car; cafés and beach restaurants in the Careyes village are 5–10 minutes away.
Place Casa Ceiba on the map at roughly 19.59° N, 105.52° W, on the Costa Careyes headlands above Bahía de Chamela. The sky is so vast that it alters your thoughts, the sea stacks ahead, and the jungle behind you.
Choosing your horizon line is the focus of these days. The rooftop takes over by golden hour, with the ocean turning copper and the air cooling just enough to prolong conversation. The infinity pool draws you in early, glass-calm before the first breeze; afternoons drift toward shade and pages you eventually finish. Mornings are for light and the feeling that you’ve been here longer than the calendar allows; nights are for peaceful companionship and the metronome of the waves. It’s luxury without noise, a serene clarity of materials and space that beckons you to relax, re-establish your connection, and let the Pacific set the time.
Three things to do in the area
• Take a local panga across Bahía de Chamela to have a picnic on a sandbar and snorkel Isla Pajarera;
• Hike to the Copa del Sol land-art installation at golden hour to see the ocean change color.
• At dawn, take a horseback ride along Playa Teopa, then come back for rooftop yoga as the wind picks up.
Travel times and distances: PVR → Casa Ceiba ~150–210 minutes via the coastal route; ZLO → Casa Ceiba ~90–120 minutes via paved Highway 200. Careyes Village dining takes about five to ten minutes; Chamela groceries and pharmacy takes about ten to fifteen minutes; La Manzanilla takes about forty to fifty minutes; and Barra de Navidad takes about sixty to seventy-five minutes. The last one to two kilometers are the best for a mid-size SUV because they are narrow, clearly marked estate lanes.
Arrival and logistics: take a private, prearranged SUV for the least stressful arrival; fly into ZLO for the quickest transfer or PVR for a more extensive international lift. Staff can arrange for provisioning, drivers, boat days, guides, and spa services at the villa; once installed, most movement is brief and enjoyable.
Few Pacific getaways can compare to Casa Ceiba’s unique value proposition, which combines Diego Villaseñor’s tranquil white-curve architecture with a true cliff-edge location and twin rooftop terraces to create a museum-calm design that still lives barefoot and open to the sea.
