La Plage
Description
The Caribbean becomes your front lawn as soon as you enter the sea-gate at La Plage, with 9,500 square meters of sculpted gardens, Catalina Island floating on the horizon, Minitas Bay spreading out in blues and silvers, and palms casting shadows.
Over 1,500 square meters of living space are illuminated by the high ceilings and long rooflines of three pavilions facing the ocean, which open like sails to the breeze. Here, dining rooms that exchange four walls for the sky, salons that flow to stone terraces, and wide steps that lead directly to your own private swath of white sand where the water is as serene at dawn as it is copper at dusk are all part of one conversation. When visitors envision the finest Casa de Campo villas, it’s the tranquility they envision—grand in scope, cozy in atmosphere, and synchronized with the beat of the ocean.
The estate is calibrated for large gatherings that still want pockets of quiet. With lounge areas, spa-bright bathrooms, and doors that frame the horizon like a painting, each of the two exquisite master suites commands the best views. While a special children’s room with bunk beds, twins, and a comfortable play area for board games and movie nights keeps younger guests together and occupied, eight exquisitely furnished guest suites echo the same promise of privacy and comfort.
Materials such as cool Coralina underfoot, artisan woodwork that warms the eye, and fabrics that remain soft against sun-warmed skin were selected with both longevity and hand-feel in mind. Ceviches arrive minutes after the morning’s catch, breakfasts appear when the bay is still, and tasting menus unfold at your leisure beneath the pergola while the surf keeps time. The state-of-the-art kitchen operates to a professional cadence for your private chef and team.
The property turns into a private resort attracted to human scale once the thresholds are crossed. Sea almond and frangipani-scented gardens lead to a fully furnished Pilates studio. A ping-pong table sits in the shade for spontaneous competitions, pickleball courts and sand-soft volleyball keep the late afternoons lively, and loungers line the tideline for those who prefer their sport to be a long swim to a buoy and back.
The day is yours because the beach is yours: sunset cocktails on the terrace, hammocks in the almond trees, barefoot lunches in the breeze as the last foursomes clear the Teeth of the Dog and the bay falls silent. A skilled chef and professional staff handle everything with the kind of silent precision that makes luxury seem effortless—rooms are reset in between conversations, glasses are filled before you notice, and minor needs are met without a word.
Even though everything the resort is well-known for is just a short distance away, the silence on the estate never wavers.
It takes about 5 to 10 minutes by golf cart or car to get to Minitas Beach and its beachside café (though you’ll be tempted to stay on your own sand); 5 to 10 minutes to the Teeth of the Dog clubhouse and spa; 10 to 15 minutes to Casa de Campo Marina, which offers waterfront restaurants, provisioning, a pharmacy counter, and yacht charters; 10 to 15 minutes to the Racquet Center and equestrian complex; and 15 to 20 minutes to Altos de Chavón and the Dye Fore course above the Río Chavón canyon for views of stone lanes, galleries, and golden hour.
Locate La Plage on the oceanfront belt close to Minitas at roughly 18.41° N, 68.91° W for map orientation. Door-to-door arrivals are smooth and completely paved: La Romana International (LRM) takes 10 to 15 minutes, Punta Cana (PUJ) takes 50 to 60 minutes, and Santo Domingo’s Las Américas (SDQ) takes 75 to 90 minutes, depending on traffic. Any vehicle class can easily navigate the last 1-2 km of the resort’s flat, well-marked estate lanes; a private SUV transfer is the least stressful option. Once you’re settled in, on-site golf carts are perfect for beach, spa, tennis, and marina hops.
There’s a particular cadence you fall into here: early swims when the bay is glass; long, shaded lunches that drift into siesta; late-day volleys on the pickleball court; a stroll along the waterline as lanterns blink on across the gardens. La Plage is a place to celebrate a milestone, unite generations, or just let a week grow into a season.
La Plage is unique because it is a brand-new, real oceanfront complex with three outdoor pavilions, a private beach, two master suites, eight guest suites, and a dedicated children’s area with a Pilates gym, pickleball, and volleyball—an amenity stack uncommon even among flagship Casa de Campo estates.
Three things to do in the area
• After a peaceful swim in Minitas at dawn, spend some time at the beachside café enjoying espresso and fresh fruit.
• Before a candlelit dinner on the plaza, explore the galleries and river views of Altos de Chavón at dusk. Play a front-nine on Teeth of the Dog and stretch lunch on the clubhouse’s sea-view terrace.
