Palm West
Description
Palm West, a single-story, low, linear, modern villa that appears to float between lawn and sky, reveals its quiet confidence as the late afternoon light slides across La Romana Country Club’s fifth fairway.
Despite having open volumes and minimalist lines, the architecture is deliberate and clean without ever coming across as sterile. Glass recedes to allow the breeze to do its work, limestone remains cool under bare feet, and timber warms the hand. The view expands as soon as you enter the house: a 30-meter pool that runs the entire length like a blue brushstroke, a heated jacuzzi that steams gently at sunset, and gardens that blend in with the living areas so that indoor and outdoor spaces are merely moods rather than boundaries. Palm West is the ideal combination of Casa de Campo’s easy rhythm, privacy, and design.
Around the water, days assemble. The pool reflects an empty sky as the sun rises behind the palm trees in the morning, letting light in through the clerestory windows. Opening on two sides, the living pavilion frames the fairway in a way that is cinematic but never staged; high vaults and ceiling fans naturally pull air through to keep everything warm and bright when the trade winds pick up. Long lunches and late dinners are anchored by a thirteen-foot sculptured table in the air-conditioned dining room at the center of the house, which has a green tableau on one side and the pool’s gentle reflections on the other.
With ample prep surfaces and a logical flow, the kitchen is designed for authentic cooking and effortless service; a private chef navigates it like they would on a stage they are accustomed to. Even quiet times are taken into account, with sightlines that facilitate conversation without compromising anyone’s privacy, a shaded terrace where espresso becomes a ritual, and reading nooks nestled beneath deep eaves.
From the main living areas, five suites jut out like serene, private wings. Warm wooden floors soften the tone and muffle footsteps, while double-height ceilings give each room an uplifting sense of volume. Three suites have outdoor showers that bring the scent of frangipani and the silence of leaves into the day, and en suite baths take advantage of the light from the lush interior gardens to make the morning routine feel relaxed and rejuvenating.
Three bedrooms with king and sofa beds, two bedrooms with two queen beds, and direct garden access through private terraces make the sleeping arrangements ideal for both families and couples. With ceiling fans and climate control in every room, you can customize the ambiance to your liking and get a good night’s sleep—even during the hottest summer months.
Palm West is compelling not just because of what you see but also because of how it functions. There is always a spot for morning laps because the pool follows the sun, and by late afternoon, there is a plane of warm light.
Steam rises as the fairway becomes silent, and the jacuzzi turns into an evening ritual. The landscaping, which includes clipped greens, sculptural palms, and flowering edges, is both tropical and disciplined, giving the view toward the fifth hole the appearance of a living painting. Additionally, because Palm West is part of Casa de Campo, you can enjoy all of the resort’s amenities without the resort pace: world-class golf just a short drive away, the serene shallows of Minitas Beach for boat days, a marina for boat days, and Altos de Chavón for music, art, and a stone village perched above the Río Chavón.
If you’re planning the ideal day from Palm West, start with a tee time at Teeth of the Dog or a sunrise nine at La Romana Country Club, then head to Minitas Beach for a leisurely swim and a late lunch, before climbing to Altos de Chavón for a stargazing dinner.
Approximately 8–12 minutes by golf cart to Minitas Beach Club; 10–15 minutes to the Marina’s eateries and yacht departures; 7–12 minutes to the Teeth of the Dog clubhouse and 5–8 minutes to La Romana Country Club facilities; 12–18 minutes to Altos de Chavón; and 15–25 minutes by car to La Romana town center, which has groceries and a larger pharmacy selection. Located in Casa de Campo’s residential center along the fifth fairway of the La Romana Country Club, Palm West offers easy resort navigation to all facilities; its approximate coordinates are 18.41° N, 68.91° W.
Logistics and arrival are simple and easy. The most convenient gateway is La Romana International Airport (LRM), which takes roughly 10 to 15 minutes door-to-door during off-peak hours and a little longer during peak hours. Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) typically takes 45 to 60 minutes, and Santo Domingo’s Las Américas Airport (SDQ) takes roughly 75 to 90 minutes, depending on traffic.
All three airports have fully paved and well-maintained roads; the last one to two kilometers within the resort are flat estate boulevards that are appropriate for SUVs and regular sedans. An SUV is favored for grocery runs and off-property dinners, while a golf cart is the convenient means of transportation between the villa, beach club, clubhouse, and marina once you’re settled in.
Palm West’s unique west-facing, fairway-front location, combined with a 30-meter lap pool and indoor garden baths in a single-story minimalist design, is what really makes it stand out. It offers breathtaking sunsets, easy access, and a resort-level tranquility that few nearby residences can match.
Three local activities include: a leisurely beach day with snorkeling and a late lunch at Minitas; a sunrise round at La Romana Country Club or Teeth of the Dog followed by espresso at the clubhouse; and an evening stroll through Altos de Chavón for galleries, live music, and dinner with a view of the Río Chavón.
