As soon as you cross the lengthy wooden walkway and enter Villa Amaite, a brand-new private retreat in Soliman Bay Tulum that resembles a contemporary lost world, you can’t help but feel a sense of discovery. The property has a subtly cinematic Caribbean vibe thanks to its palapa-topped roofs, a gentle color scheme of natural materials, and its minimalist, well-considered interior design. It is sturdy, straightforward, and incredibly, refreshingly unpretentious.
Arrival and initial thoughts
The tone is established by the approach, which leads to a compound that is easily and purposefully laid out along a timber causeway that winds through shade and sea breeze. At first glance, the architecture seems tropical with its high thatched roofs, deep overhangs, and ample open circulation, but the details are modern and simple. As a result, the house appears to have grown patiently out of the landscape rather than being built on top of it.
Design and capacity
The main house and a separate casita are the two complementary structures that make up Villa Amaite. When combined, they provide a versatile retreat that can accommodate up to 22 people, which makes the property perfect for private events, big family get-togethers, or groups looking to take a vacation together without compromising privacy.
The main villa has five tastefully furnished suites that can comfortably house 12 guests. Every suite has air conditioning, queen-size beds, tasteful stone bathrooms, and balconies that overlook the sea, making them ideal for leisurely afternoons.
The casita is a small, independent residence that shares the main villa’s aesthetic. It has three more bedrooms and a private sandy gathering spot shaded by palm trees. It’s the ideal place for splinter groups to spread out and spend peaceful evenings or for kids to play safely close by while adults socialize.
Interiors and bedrooms
Sensory rest is considered when designing bedrooms. Warm and healing spaces are created by combining restrained color schemes with locally sourced materials like teak, woven textures, and natural stone, as well as clean architectural lines. Each room has a private balcony and large windows facing the sea, so when you wake up here, you’re greeted by the sound of the water, the breeze, and the bay’s slow motion.
High-end, tactile finishes are popular in bathrooms, such as stone cladding, roomy showers, and understated yet sophisticated fixtures that have a spa-like feel without being pretentious. The interior’s furnishings are thoughtful and tasteful throughout, taking a minimalist approach that highlights the natural surroundings, light, and space.
Beach, terrace, and pool
The terrace and pool outside are intended to obfuscate the distinction between the shore and the built environment. There is a sense of continuity between the shoreline and the lounge chairs as the pool deck visually blends into the bay’s white sands. The outdoor spaces are incredibly social, yet still allow guests to find privacy thanks to a variety of relaxation areas, including open loungers, alfresco dining areas, and shaded chaises.
Days can be spent moving fluidly from a morning swim to snorkeling off the shore, or from a poolside siesta to a sunset cocktail under the palapa, thanks to the property’s direct beach access and palm-fringed sandy area. The design promotes a leisurely, unhurried pace: evenings spent together under the stars, barefoot walks, and meals outside.
The casita: events & adaptability
Capacity and versatility are added by the casita. Constructed using the same architectural style as the main house, it provides a natural division for accommodating staff, hosting events, or accommodating multi-family groups. Its own palm-lined sandy courtyard can be used as a small, private space for private ceremonies, a play area for kids, or a quiet place for yoga and morning meditation.
