Villa Buena Vida
Description
Villa Buena Vida rises above Cabo del Sol’s renowned fairways like a sun-washed promise of long, easy days, where the desert plunges into the Sea of Cortez in a rush of gold and blue.
The ocean is visible from practically every room, shimmering through glass walls that allow the house to breathe with the trade winds. As the sky turns copper and the breeze lifts off the water, terraces flow toward a resort-style pool that seems to pour into the horizon; a palapa shades the bar; and an outdoor fireplace and fire pit unite the evenings. This 8,000-square-foot retreat was created for people who enjoy getting together. It is a unique combination of glitz and warmth in Los Cabos Villas.
The great room is filled with natural light and subtle textures, ranging from luxurious, coastal-cool seating to a dining area large enough for festive dinners. With two ovens, a large breakfast bar, and a complete set of matching stainless appliances, the gourmet kitchen is a host’s paradise and a cook’s ally, making sunrise pancakes as simple as a chef-driven tasting menu.
Each of the five bedrooms has a spa-bright ensuite, a joyful bunk room with three matching twin-over-twin sets gives younger guests a wing to call their own, and most of them feature king beds, private terraces, and sparkling views of the sea. Night owls and early swimmers never compete because common areas and sleep suites are kept separate through careful planning.
Villa Buena Vida actually exists outside. Stargazing sessions that last late into the night are anchored by a gas fire pit; loungers and conversation nooks are positioned for breeze and view; and the cascading pool arcs across the terrace with a wide shallow shelf for sunning. With the built-in grill, palapa bar, and spacious alfresco dining, you might spend entire days there without considering leaving. When you do, you’re in one of Cabo’s most sought-after addresses: the gated, patrolled community of Cabo del Sol, which boasts world-class golf on Jack Nicklaus’s legendary Ocean Course and a shoreline dotted with serene, swimmable pockets and dramatic coves.
Like the stonework, the practicalities are flawless. Chileno Bay and Santa Maria Beach, two of Los Cabos’ most popular swimmable beaches, are 8–12 minutes away by car, while the closest protected cove is about 1 km away (about a 15-minute walk; the return is uphill). It’s easy to stock the pantry: the restaurants and nightlife of Cabo San Lucas Marina are 12–15 minutes away; the galleries and Thursday Art Walk in San José del Cabo are 25–30 minutes up the Corridor; and Fresko/La Comer and Costco are 10–15 minutes away.
In normal traffic, it will take 35 to 45 minutes to get to Los Cabos International Airport (SJD); for private aviation, it will take 20 to 25 minutes to get to Cabo San Lucas International (CSL). The last kilometer of Cabo del Sol is entirely paved, with smooth, well-marked resort roads. Any car is acceptable, but a mid-size SUV makes dining out and beach hopping a breeze. For orientation, the villa is located at 22.900° N, 109.835° W, above the Corridor shoreline.
Villa Buena Vida stands out for its unique combination of size and location—a family-friendly, oceanfront estate with a sculptural, tumbling pool and palapa bar, situated just a short distance from Cabo del Sol’s swimmable coves and Nicklaus-designed fairways, but designed so that private suites and lively gathering areas never compete.
The Cabo of your dreams is waiting just beyond your terrace. Wander home for ceviche beneath the palapa after spending the morning tracing the Ocean Course while waves crash along the fairways. For milestone celebrations that require even more space, reserve Villa de los Faros, the sister estate next door, to transform your visit into a private micro-resort without compromising intimacy. Let the house do what it was designed to do when the afternoon breeze arrives: blur the boundaries between inside and outside until the sun’s calendar is all you have.
Three simple excursions close by
• Arrive at Chileno Bay by 9 a.m. for glass-calm snorkeling on the sand; on the way home, take a detour to Santa Maria for a second swim and tacos. Before returning to the fire pit for a sundowner, charter a panga from Cabo San Lucas Marina to loop El Arco and have a picnic on Lover’s Beach. After the Thursday Art Walk in San José del Cabo, which winds through wine bars and galleries under papel-picado, head back to your terrace for a swim at night.
Meta travel and access: 35–45 minutes from SJD; 20–25 minutes from CSL private airport; 8–12 minutes from Cabo del Sol to Chileno/Santa Maria; 12–15 minutes from Cabo San Lucas Marina; 25–30 minutes from San José del Cabo; last 1 km on smooth resort roads; SUV advised for beach hopping.
