Casa Caleton

Description

The Caribbean horizon sets the rhythm of the day at Casa Caleton. Set on the oceanfront of Caleton, the most sought-after enclave inside Casa de Campo, this two-storey estate opens in a single sweep from the great room across the terraces and infinity pool to the sea. It was built for large gatherings that want both spectacle and ease, and it delivers both without ever feeling like a hotel. From the moment you arrive, the house feels assured and welcoming, a residence of real scale that still reads as a cherished family retreat.

Where exactly is Casa Caleton, and what is in front of the villa?

Casa Caleton sits in Caleton, a low-density residential enclave on the southern shoreline of Casa de Campo, the 7,000-acre gated resort estate at La Romana. The house faces due south over open water, so the view from the pool terrace is uninterrupted Caribbean: no road, no neighbouring rooftops, only the coral-stone shoreline, the lawn, the palms and the horizon.

The coast directly in front of the villa is the natural coral ledge that gives this stretch of Casa de Campo its character. It is a place for watching the sea rather than wading into it: the waves break on the rock a few metres beyond the lawn, the breeze arrives straight off the water, and the light at sunrise and sunset is extraordinary. A short walk from the house, Caleton has its own small, sheltered sandy cove reserved for the neighbourhood, with calm water for a morning swim.

For a full beach day, Minitas Beach is about 2.3 miles from the door, a few minutes by golf cart: a wide arc of pale sand with smooth, protected water, sunbeds, watersports and the Minitas Beach Club for lunch and sundowners. Guests of Casa Caleton have access to the beach club and to every Casa de Campo facility as resort residents.

How do I get there?

La Romana International Airport (LRM) is roughly 15 minutes from the villa, with direct flights from Miami and seasonal service from other US gateways and Europe. Punta Cana International Airport is about 75 minutes by road, Santo Domingo about 90 minutes. Private jets land at La Romana, and Haute Retreats arranges the transfer so the party arrives at the villa with no arrangements to make on the ground. Casa de Campo is a gated estate with 24-hour security at every entrance.

What is the house like inside?

The ground floor is designed around togetherness. The main living pavilion is one open, light-filled volume that flows directly onto the pool terrace, so conversation moves naturally between sofa, terrace and water. Trade winds pass straight through the house; you hear the sea from every room on this level.

There are two kitchens. A show kitchen with a wide island seats five for tastings, breakfast and espresso, and a fully equipped professional kitchen behind it lets the chef and staff work unseen while service arrives at the table seamlessly.

Evenings begin with cocktails at the pool’s edge and move to long dinners outdoors while the sky turns from ember to indigo and the barbecue sends up a curl of woodsmoke. A contemporary bonfire lounge keeps the night going once the breeze cools, still within sight of the water.

Finishes throughout favour touch and longevity: cool stone underfoot, fine timber, textured linens. Every room has effective air conditioning and blackout options.

How are the bedrooms arranged, and who sleeps where?

Twelve suites, all en suite, all with air conditioning, smart TVs and blackout options, arranged for privacy and parity.

Six garden-level suites open directly onto the gardens and the pool, each with two queen beds, ideal for families with children, friends sharing, or anyone who wants to be steps from an early swim or a late siesta.

On the upper level, three principal ocean-view suites have king beds, spa-style bathrooms, private balconies and 180-degree sea views; sunrise from these rooms feels like a private showing. The remaining upper-level suites carry the same standard of comfort, with en-suite bathrooms and terrace access, so no guest in the party is given a lesser room.

Is the villa staffed, and what does the staff do?

Yes, fully. A private chef and chef’s assistant cook throughout the stay, working from market produce and local seafood to menus agreed with you. A butler and waitstaff handle service, poolside refreshments and the well-timed cappuccino. Housekeepers keep the house immaculate every morning.

A dedicated villa manager or concierge coordinates everything else: spa appointments, tee times, marina charters, restaurant reservations, babysitters, provisioning before arrival. Two six-seat golf carts are at your disposal for the beach club, the Marina and the golf courses. Groceries and beverages are billed at cost.

What is there to do on the property?

The infinity pool holds the sky like a mirror, and the jacuzzi beside it is the warm counterpoint at sunset. A private gym keeps morning routines intact. A media room gives a proper cinema experience for afternoons out of the sun or late-night screenings. The deep lawn and broad terraces are made for play, yoga and long lunches, and the bonfire lounge for the last hour of the evening.

What is nearby within Casa de Campo?

Everything is reachable by golf cart. Minitas Beach and the Minitas Beach Club are about 2.3 miles away. Three Pete Dye courses, led by Teeth of the Dog, the top-ranked course in the Caribbean, with Dye Fore and The Links alongside, have their pro shop and starter a few minutes from the villa. The Marina Casa de Campo has restaurants, boutiques, a yacht club and charter boats for Catalina and Saona islands. Altos de Chavón, a 16th-century-style Mediterranean village built on the cliffs above the Río Chavón, has galleries, artisan workshops, restaurants and a 5,000-seat amphitheatre that hosts international concerts. The Equestrian Center, Tennis Center and Shooting Center complete the resort, along with the Casa de Campo spa and a choice of restaurants in the hotel village.

Who is Casa Caleton right for?

Multigenerational families, milestone birthdays, executive retreats and long stays in the season. It is a house that keeps its calm and its legibility even when all twelve suites are occupied, because the architecture handles light and breeze so well and the staff handle everything else. The Caribbean here is not a backdrop but a constant companion.

Good to know

The estate requires a minimum stay of ten nights over Christmas and New Year, which keeps the season’s rhythm unhurried and the house fully staffed. Casa de Campo charges a resort registration fee per guest per night, payable on site, which grants full resident access to the beach club, Marina and sports facilities. Check-in and check-out times, staffing hours and chef arrangements are confirmed at booking.

A few days at Casa Caleton

Play Teeth of the Dog in the cool of the morning, then settle in at Minitas Beach Club for lunch and sundowners.

Charter from the Marina for a golden-hour cruise along the coast, or a full day of snorkelling and lunch on the sand at Catalina Island.

Walk the cobblestones of Altos de Chavón for galleries, live music and the view down the Río Chavón gorge.

Stay home: let the chef set the table on the terrace, light the fire pit, and watch the sea go dark.
