Casa de Las Risas
Description
As soon as you arrive, Casa de Las Risas truly lives up to its name.
Nestled in the second row of the esteemed Palmilla Caleta neighborhood, this modern five-bedroom villa is like a serene, brightly lit gallery suspended over the Sea of Cortez. Everywhere you stand, you’re reminded that you’re in one of the most sought-after areas of Los Cabos thanks to the combination of rich wood, pale stone, and large glass panes.
From the outside, the terraces are tiered toward the sea, and the house descends the hillside in straight, uncomplicated lines. The interior of Casa de Las Risas is all about contrast and serenity: light-toned walls and floors contrast with dark wood furniture and cabinets, and the minimal décor is broken up by a few striking shapes and textures.
Instead of being ostentatious, the effect is subtly opulent, the kind of place where you instantly feel yourself letting go. With two true master suites that feel like boutique hotel rooms and additional bedrooms that can accommodate couples, older children, and friends thanks to a mix of king, queen, and twin bedding, the roughly 4,500 square foot home has five bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms, comfortably accommodating up to fourteen guests.
The open-concept living and dining area is the focal point of the house. The interior flows directly onto the upper terrace as the floor-to-ceiling glass along the ocean side completely vanishes. Here, mornings usually begin with coffee on the sofa or at the dining table as the sky over Palmilla Bay brightens. Just behind is the gourmet kitchen, which has ample counter space, professional-grade stainless-steel appliances, and a breakfast bar that serves as the day’s planning center. It’s a truly functional kitchen rather than a decorative afterthought, whether you’re cooking as a family or hiring a private chef.
The lower terrace downstairs is like having your own private beach club. With a smaller plunge pool next to it and a fringe of padded wooden loungers on the grass-lined deck, an infinity-edge pool seems to flow directly toward the Sea of Cortez.
With swims, sun naps, and lengthy talks in the shade, days here seem to go on forever. It’s as tempting to eat in as it is to eat out thanks to the built-in bar, barbecue, and outdoor dining area that are positioned to take advantage of the view and the breeze. Different generations or groups can spread out thanks to the upper and lower terraces: children in the pool below, grandparents with a drink and a book on the upper level, all sharing the same expansive view of the sky and sea.
Inside, Casa de Las Risas discreetly serves as a center for entertainment. Four of the five bedrooms have Smart TVs so that everyone can take a break and watch whatever they want. The main living area has a large TV with live sports and streaming access.
Everyday comfort is taken care of in the background by dependable Wi-Fi, air conditioning throughout, a private fitness center, and a water purification system—exactly what you want from upscale Los Cabos Villas. With daily housekeeping (apart from Sundays and holidays), on-site concierge assistance, and round-the-clock gated security, you can spend your days enjoying the view and the time you came for.
Casa de Las Risas is unique in large part because of the Palmilla setting. One of the most popular sections of shoreline on the Corridor, Palmilla’s sandy, frequently swimmable beach is just a five-minute walk from the villa along peaceful community roads.
You can schedule access to the Palmilla Golf and Tennis facilities as a guest of the Palmilla residential community; however, there are fees and reservations must be made in advance. Additionally, starting in January 2025, the golf course will become a fully private members’ club, so any play will be subject to the current membership policies at the time of your stay. You can also request dining at the One&Only Palmilla resort through your concierge; however, this is always contingent upon hotel confirmation and availability.
Arriving is a delightfully easy process. Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) is the best gateway; in light traffic, it takes about twenty minutes by car from Palmilla, but in heavy traffic, it takes closer to twenty-five or thirty minutes.
The last one to two kilometers are completely paved, gently sloping streets lined with villas and palms that are easily navigable in a regular sedan or SUV. From the highway, you turn off into Palmilla, pass a security gate, and follow smooth, landscaped roads into the Caleta neighborhood. Although an SUV is frequently more comfortable for shopping, luggage, and golf bags, a 4×4 is not necessary in this situation. Casa de Las Risas is easily located in any navigation app because it is located in Caleta Palmilla, just above Playa Palmilla, at approximately 23.0° N, 109.7° W on a map.
Daily logistics are simple. Downtown San José del Cabo, with its Art District, larger supermarkets, pharmacies, and restaurants, is usually ten minutes away by car, depending on the time of day. The Shoppes at Palmilla, with boutiques, cafés, and a small market, is only a few minutes away. With its busier marina and nightlife, Cabo San Lucas is typically twenty to twenty-five minutes away along the Corridor. It’s close enough for a dinner or boat day, but far enough away that Casa de Las Risas still feels distinctly residential and tranquil.
Casa de Las Risas stands out among Los Cabos Villas for its unique blend of modern, minimalist design, family-friendly indoor-outdoor living, and a true “second-row” Palmilla location that offers the full prestige of the Palmilla community, easy five-minute beach access, and expansive, cinematic views of the Sea of Cortez.
Three nearby activities include:
swimming and beach walks at Playa Palmilla, which is only a short stroll from the villa, followed by coffee or brunch at The Shoppes at Palmilla; spending an afternoon or evening in the historic center of San José del Cabo, which is about ten minutes away, exploring galleries, pharmacies, wine bars, restaurants, and, during the season, the Thursday night Art Walk; or driving twenty to twenty-five minutes west to Cabo San Lucas Marina for a private boat charter, deep-sea fishing, snorkeling, or seasonal whale watching along Land’s End before returning to the peaceful terraces of Casa de Las Risas.
