Casa Edwards
Description
Bougainvillea tumbling over cantera stone, whitewashed walls catching the sun, red clay tiles warming to gold, and the gentle percussion of the Sea of Cortez just beyond the terrace are all reminiscent of the old Palmilla glamour when you stand beneath Casa Edwards’ arches.
This seaside hacienda, located in the ultra-chic Villas del Mar neighborhood, combines modern interior design with traditional colonial features like sweeping arches, lattice detail, and palapa shade to create a home that is both cozy and dramatic. The color scheme becomes serene and coastal as soon as you enter: neutral linens, cool stone floors, striking artwork that pays homage to Baja’s artistic side, and a large space intended for socializing. While the adjacent salon surrounds a luxurious media setup with deep, sink-in seating to make family movie nights long and easy, a twelve-seat dining hall with a fireplace manages celebrations without feeling formal.
The villa faces the arc of Palmilla Bay, which is surrounded by sculpted rock and palms and features golden sand and azurite water. You’ll spend most days lounging on the resort-style pool deck, where an infinity edge blends into the bay and a Jacuzzi warms as the evening breeze softens. The beach is just a short distance down the lane. A Spanish patio above, complete with a fountain, shade, and a hammock that seems to find the wind, becomes the peaceful nook you didn’t know you needed.
A firepit surrounded by pillow-topped couches sets the mood for stargazing. The center of gravity is shifted outdoors beneath the palapa by a fully equipped wet bar, grill, TV, and stereo; lunches stretch, games play in the background, and the afternoon organizes itself effortlessly. The sea, flowers, and palm trees take care of the rest.
The interiors are elegant and contemporary at the same time—modern muscle, colonial bones. Luxurious linens and views of the garden or ocean adorn bedrooms, which are designed for true relaxation; closets swallow luggage to keep areas calm. Although the chef’s kitchen is trustworthy and competent, you might choose to delegate control to a private chef in order to keep the conversation in the best possible light.
The concierge can also request meals at One&Only Palmilla’s restaurants (subject to hotel confirmation), and your reservation in Palmilla’s residential community grants you access to the Palmilla Golf and Tennis Clubs (by reservation; fees apply). One of the Los Cabos Villas that allows you to experience both five-star access and the tranquility of a private home without ever feeling controlled.
Everything you desire is close enough to feel impromptu. The San José del Cabo Art District and historic plaza are usually twelve to fifteen minutes by car, depending on the hour; Cabo San Lucas Marina and El Arco viewpoints are about twenty to twenty-five minutes along Highway 1; and the Shoppes at Palmilla, which include groceries, pharmacies, cafés, and boutiques, are usually six to eight minutes.
Place Casa Edwards on the Villas del Mar bluff in Palmilla at roughly 23.011° N, 109.730° W on the map, with private lanes behind and blue water in front. In normal traffic, Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) takes about 20 to 30 minutes from door to door, while Cabo San Lucas FBO takes about 30 to 40 minutes. All vehicle classes can easily navigate the final 1-2 km of well-marked residential lanes on the fully paved roads, though SUVs are the best for dinner runs and beach trips.
The unique combination of a grand, Colonial-style entertaining plan—fireplace dining hall, media salon, Spanish patio, and palapa bar terrace—and true steps-to-sand convenience in Villas del Mar is what makes Casa Edwards unique. It offers private-home coziness with resort-level flow on one of Palmilla’s most legendary bays.
Three things to do in the area
• Take a panga from Cabo San Lucas Marina to circle El Arco and snorkel Lover’s Beach before a late ceviche lunch; • Wander the San José del Cabo Art Walk (Thursday evenings, in season) and let galleries, wine bars, and taco stands set the route; • Slip down to Palmilla Beach at first light for a swim, followed by espresso and fruit at the Shoppes on your walk back.
