Casa Calma
Description
The tempo slows as you move through PUNTACANA RESORT & CLUB’s palm-lined boulevards; by the time you arrive at Casa Calma, the atmosphere is a whisper of salt, bougainvillea, and something exquisitely leisurely.
From the moment you enter, the villa truly lives up to its name. A space that feels collected rather than decorated, with hand-hewn wood, limewashed walls, woven fibers, and unique pieces the owners—a writer and a fashion editor—gathered from Spain, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, India, and Morocco, combines Caribbean exuberance, Mexican craftsmanship, and Mediterranean simplicity.
Light streams across Coralina stone and through double-height volumes; cross-breezes wind their way from the whispering fountains of the inner courtyard to gardens of oaks and coconut palms that open onto the golf course greens. You exhale naturally because it’s an organic house that combines art and functionality in peaceful conversation.
Days come in short chapters. You drift to a submerged bench to watch the light change after the sun slides into the water in the west-facing infinity pool, where a 55-foot swim lane transforms intention into ritual. Three in-pool chaises keep you half in and half out of the sea heat, while six loungers enjoy the water’s edge as the terrace follows the shade to keep the midday heat civilized.
Reading turns into an afternoon under the palapa; by nightfall, the barbecue pavilion takes over, which is a fully functional outdoor kitchen complete with a wine cooler, ice maker, bar counter, gas and charcoal grills, and a paella burner. This ensures that dinner is served without any hassles. Indoors, a double-aspect great room frames the courtyard on one side and the gardens on the other; high-speed Wi-Fi just works everywhere you go, and musical home automation gives social areas a low, coastal pulse from the living room, porch, terrace, and pool.
Each of the five bedroom suites has a private bathroom for peaceful, rejuvenating sleep. Three lead to private terraces surrounded by greenery; the light is gentle throughout the day, the textiles are tactile rather than fussy, and the colors remain soft and sun-washed. An 80-inch screen, a sprawling chaise that the whole family invariably claims, and a proper study with a two-seat desk and library of large-format fashion, art, jewelry, and travel books are all located on the second floor.
From the high chef’s table at the grill pavilion, the intimate four-tops by the courtyard fountains, and the ten-seat indoor table to the porch open to the American kitchen, there are four different dining scenes that keep gatherings interesting. The details are thoughtful rather than loud, with fans that stir a breeze before the air conditioning is needed and a massage bed ready when the mood turns spa-ward. Because Casa Calma is designed with ventilation and shade in mind, you can spend the majority of your day outside and let the air conditioner do its job.
Everything is kept simple by the setting. The Six Senses Spa transforms a leisurely afternoon into a ritual; restaurants throughout the resort seamlessly transition from barefoot casual to white-linen celebration; Tom Fazio’s Corales and P.B. Dye’s La Cana are close enough for sunrise tee times; and La Cana Beach Club offers sugar-soft sands and serene, swimmable water via a short golf cart glide. At home, the villa slows down: music becomes softer, lanterns light up the courtyard rills, and the evening becomes a time for conversation.
The travel times and distances are reasonable and door-to-door. The distances from Casa Calma to Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) are roughly 8–12 minutes during off-peak hours and 12–18 minutes during peak hours; La Cana Beach Club and Golf are typically 5–10 minutes by golf cart; Playa Blanca is roughly 8–12 minutes by cart; Corales Golf Course is usually 10–15 minutes; PUNTACANA Village, which has a supermarket, pharmacy, ATM, cafés, and boutiques, is typically 8–12 minutes by car; BlueMall Puntacana is 12–18 minutes; and trailheads and freshwater lagoons within the Ojos Indígenas Ecological Reserve are typically 10–15 minutes, depending on gate access.
Casa Calma is located in the Hacienda belt close to La Cana on the resort’s southeast coast at approximately 18.51° N, 68.38° W. It is accessible via fully paved estate boulevards; the last one to two kilometers are level, well-maintained roads that are suitable for all car classes. Plan on a golf cart for easy daily mobility—beaches, golf, spa, and dinners become pleasant short hops—after flying into PUJ and taking a private SUV or resort transfer.
Casa Calma’s curatorial soul—an art-forward, hand-crafted, cross-breeze architecture that lives open to water and garden—combined with genuinely useful outdoor gastronomy and a pool terrace intended for all-day sun is what ultimately sets it apart from other Punta Cana villas. This adds design depth without compromising ease of use.
Enjoy a golden-hour nine at La Cana, end the day with a toes-in-the-sand dinner at Playa Blanca, stroll along shaded paths to a freshwater plunge at Ojos Indígenas, and start the day with an espresso and swim at La Cana Beach Club.
