Villa Caramba
Description
Villa Caramba is the type of St. Barth retreat that seems to have been waiting for you.
Nestled into the Pointe Milou cliffs, it overlooks a vast expanse of the Caribbean, where the breeze never truly stops blowing and the sea changes from deep blue to silver depending on the light. It’s big where it counts most—in view, atmosphere, and the sense of tranquility it offers you as soon as you step onto the terrace—while being small in all the right ways—two bedrooms, a private pool, and the feeling of your own little house on the hill.
Instead of competing with its surroundings, this Caribbean-style retreat embraces them. You are virtually always surrounded by the air and the sound of the water below because of the large windows and doors that direct the trade winds through the house.
All you see when you settle into a chair or spread out on a lounger is green and blue because the living areas open onto a private terrace surrounded by palms, bougainvillea, and flowering shrubs. At the center of this outdoor area is a pool that is both large enough for a proper swim and conveniently close enough to allow you to enter and exit without disrupting your daily routine. From morning until night, it’s a comfortable place to be barefoot.
Villa Caramba’s interior is straightforward in the best sense—bright, comfortable areas that encourage you to take your time. You can curl up in the evening with the doors open and the breeze blowing through or read in the midday sun when it’s at its strongest in a comfortable sitting area.
The small but well-equipped kitchen is perfect for simple dinners outside under the stars, casual island lunches, and fresh breakfasts. The villa is ideal for a couple seeking a little more space, two couples traveling together, or a small family because each of the two bedrooms has access to the terrace or pool area. It feels more intimate than opulent, more like a genuine home base than a focal point.
The balance of seclusion and convenience in Villa Caramba makes it particularly desirable among St Barts villas. Pointe Milou is well-known for its serene, high vistas and spectacular sunsets, but depending on traffic and time of day, it’s only about eight minutes by car from St-Jean’s boutiques, bakeries, and beach clubs and about thirteen minutes from Gustavia’s harborfront eateries and shops.
Arrivals and departures are nearly effortless because the island’s small airport is only a ten-minute drive away. Grocery stores for daily shopping are about eight minutes away by car, and local eateries are usually five minutes away. The closest beaches, Orient and St-Jean, are close enough that you can decide to go swimming at random, get in the water ten to twelve minutes later, and still return home in time for sunset by the pool.
It’s easy to get to the villa itself. Pointe Milou is a short drive along paved island roads after arriving by ferry in Gustavia or landing at Rémy de Haenen Airport in St-Jean. The last stretch leading up to Villa Caramba is typical of St. Barts: narrow, sometimes steep lanes with bends that reward a composed driver. It is advised to arrange a transfer or rent a small automatic car, particularly at night or on your first day on the island.
Villa Caramba is a perfect fit for three experiences. A day may begin with a leisurely breakfast on the terrace, followed by a short walk down the hill to Grand Cul-de-Sac or Marigot, where you can go snorkeling in serene, shallow water that resembles an aquarium. Another might be your “north coast” day, which consists of swimming or surfing in the morning at Lorient, eating lunch in the sand at St-Jean, returning home for a peaceful swim, and spending the evening watching the sky change from your pool.
You could spend a third evening at home, enjoying a sunset cocktail at one of Pointe Milou’s clifftop locations, a straightforward grilled dinner back at the villa, and stargazing from a lounger as the island falls silent.
Villa Caramba is a cozy, airy, and subtly romantic place for visitors who come to St. Barths for the view, the light, the sea, and a setting that makes doing very little seem like the perfect choice—guests who don’t need scale to feel pampered.
Situated ten minutes away from St-Jean, Lorient, and the best snorkeling coves on the island, Villa Caramba offers the unique combination of true Pointe Milou privacy, expansive ocean views, and an intimate two-bedroom layout with pool.
