Athens is the gateway. These are the US cities with nonstop flights to Athens, most of them seasonal, from spring to autumn. Two routes are new for 2027.

From the West Coast, the new Seattle flight is the first nonstop to Athens. From Los Angeles or San Francisco, most guests connect in a US gateway or a European hub, or fly private.
Can you fly nonstop from the USA to Mykonos?
No. There are no scheduled nonstop flights from the United States to Mykonos. The island’s own nonstop flights come from Athens all year, and in season from European hubs, among them London, Paris, Rome, Milan, Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Geneva, Vienna, Amsterdam, Brussels, Madrid and Barcelona. Flying to one of those cities lets you trade the Athens connection for a night in Rome or Paris on the way. A private jet can fly to Mykonos directly, or with a single fuel stop, depending on the aircraft.

Rafina is the closer of the two ports to Athens airport; Piraeus has more sailings. For a group of eight or ten, a private jet split between the families often costs less than it sounds against peak-week premium fares, and it gives back most of a day.
The border in 2027: EES now, ETIAS later
The Entry/Exit System (EES) has been fully operational at Europe’s borders since April 2026. Instead of a passport stamp, border officers take your fingerprints and a photograph at your first entry; there is no fee and nothing to apply for in advance. Since September 2026, the temporary option for border posts to suspend the checks at busy times has ended, so plan for queues on your first entry: three hours for a connection in Athens, four on a peak weekend.
ETIAS, the new travel authorization for visitors who do not need a visa, including US citizens, is not in operation yet. The European Union says it will announce the start date several months before launch, and there will be a small application fee. If it opens before your summer 2027 trip, apply only on the official ETIAS website, not on look-alike sites that charge more.
Passport check: your passport must be valid for at least three months after the day you leave Europe and have been issued within the last ten years. If yours expires in 2027, renew it before you book.
When to go, and when to book for summer 2027
- May and June. The season opens: long days, the sea warming and the beach clubs opening for the summer.
- July and August. Every beach club and restaurant open, yachts in the bays and the island at its busiest. These are the weeks that book first.
- September and October. A warm sea, golden light and a gentler pace; flights to the island thin out from October.
- Booking the villa. Nine to twelve months ahead for June to September, six to nine months for spring and autumn. For summer 2027, that means now.
- Booking the flights. Most airlines open their seats about eleven months ahead; hold the villa first, then the flights around it.
What to watch out for
- Split tickets. Two separate bookings mean no protection if the border queue makes you miss the second flight, and you collect and re-check your bags. Book both flights on one ticket, or spend a night in Athens.
- The meltemi. The summer north wind can delay ferries and small aircraft. Keep the arrival and departure days flexible.
- Luggage limits. Ferries and helicopters have real limits, especially for groups with sports equipment.
- Late arrivals. Tell us your flight times in advance, so the driver and the villa staff are waiting, whatever the hour.
