Mykonos is famous for its pristine beaches and great nightlife considered one of the most popular Greek islands. Mykonos is not only for the party-goers; it’s an island that offers gourmet food, cultural activities, and romantic vacations. It’s a great destination and there are many ways to explore and experience this island.
Wondering what to do in Mykonos?
1. Discover the Windmills in Chora
In Mykonos the windmills are among the most recognised landmarks of the island and one of the most famous Mykonos attractions along with Little Venice. The mills used to refine grain with the help of the high winds that blow on the island.
The most famous ones are the Kato Myloi ( Lower Windmills) that stand on a hill facing the sea. To visit them you walk up the hills in Chora and you can visit the windmill of Boni, now a museum and you can enjoy incredible views, especially to watch the sunset.
2. Enjoy a cocktail in little Venice during sunset
A colourful neighbourhood with houses built on the edge of the sea. It took its name due to its resemblance with Venice.
There are many great bars and restaurants. Little Venice is among the best locations in town to watch sunset while sipping a cocktail.
3. Rent a Yacht for a day
Visit the island of Delos, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is considered one of the most important Archaeological Sites in Greece. According to Mythology, it was the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis. The island is now uninhabited, but you can visit it by taking one of the many ships that depart daily from Mykonos old harbour.

4. Explore the churches in Mykonos
One of the main characteristics of Mykonos is the abundance of churches that can be found scattered around the island. Some say that the number of churches and chapels are almost 800 and about 60 of them can be spotted in Mykonos town (Chora).
Some of the most famous are Panagia Paraportiani and Agios Nikolaos in Chora and the Monastery of Panagia Tourliani in Ano Mera. During my walk in Mykonos town, I spotted a couple of them. I believe I lost count.
5. Panagia Paraportiani
The Church of Panagia Paraportiani in the town of Kastro is one of the most beautiful churches on the island, its white-washed walls reflecting the sunlight and its vantage point offering stunning views over the Aegean Sea. The complex includes five different church buildings which have been built and added to over the years, and would once have stood next to the entrance to the island’s main castle, hence the name ‘Paraportiani’ meaning ‘standing next to the entrance door’.
6. Take a cooking Class
Greek food is considered super healthy and why not take the opportunity to learn how to cook one of the many local recipes including the most genuine ingredients. Your cookery class will give you an insight into different traditional ingredients and methods and allow you to get your hands stuck in making dishes like tzatziki, spanakopita (spinach pie), and gemista (stuffed tomatoes and peppers). You’ll then sit around the table dining on these delicious dishes and sharing a glass of raki
7. Do a Bicycle Tour
A bike tour is the best way to discover Mykonos off the beaten track. There are different bike rides across the island’s wonderful countryside including the visit of nice beaches as well.
8. Check out Armenistis Lighthouse
If you’re looking for some of the best things to do in Mykonos be sure to check out the Armenistis Lighthouse perched in the Cape Armenistis region of the island. This old lighthouse stands on the edge of the cliffside overlooking the Aegean and is still in use today, with its octagonal tower and bright light beaming out to sea every evening.
9. Wine tasting at Mykonos Vioma Organic Farm
A wine tasting accompanied by traditional Mykonian products, cheeses (kopanisti, ladotyro), rusks, hams (loutza), and the Greek salad. The farm produces its own organic wine and honey and it is set in a quiet area in Mykonos countryside surrounded by vineyards, and farm animals.
10. Choose and enjoy your time in one of the famous Beach Clubs
Mykonos might be a tranquil little Greek gem but it’s also got some wild bars and music to experience. Hop over Paradise Beach during the day where you can drink some epic cocktails at the Tropicana Beach Club.
Some of the best beach bars and clubs where you can drink cocktails in the sun and dance ’til dawn include SantAnna – Paraga Beach, Cavo Paradiso, Paradise Beach, Jackie O’ Beach Club – Super Paradise Beach, and Scorpios – Paraga Beach.
In the evening, bounce on up to Cavo Paradiso that’s perched overlooking the town itself. Think DJ sets, big crowds and a pool, obviously. If big crowds aren’t your thing, head over to the more intimate bars which spill out into the small streets and waterfront.
