Best Places to Go for New Years 2026–27: Villas and Chalets
Updated
The best places to go for New Year’s 2026–27, if the plan is a private house with staff rather than a hotel ballroom, are St Barts, Turks and Caicos, Costa Rica, Los Cabos, Punta Cana, Tulum and Courchevel 1850. Each pairs a festive atmosphere with what a hotel cannot give you at midnight: your own terrace, your own chef and your own guest list. The houses open for the season are in our Christmas and New Year villa rentals, and the island houses in our Caribbean villa rentals.
For our guests, the best New Year destinations make celebration feel effortless rather than crowded or over-programmed. The brief is nearly always the same: privacy, a beautiful pool or fireplace, enough staff to remove friction, sensible sleeping arrangements for children, and easy access to the part of the destination that matters most. For some that means harbor dinners in St Barts; for others, ski-in ski-out in Courchevel, a chef-led beach week in Turks and Caicos or a gated family estate in Punta Cana.
What goes wrong is almost always logistical. Festive weeks carry longer minimum stays, stricter event rules, fewer rental cars and busier airports, and the most successful bookings in this window are rarely spontaneous. So the dates come first.

The festive fortnight, and why it is booking earlier
New Year’s Eve falls on a Thursday this year. Across the Virtuoso network, September sales were up 77% on last year and November rose by more than 70%, with festive-season bookings up 65% (Spear’s, August 2026). The window is pulling forward, and the staffed houses that suit a festive group are the first to go.
If your dates are fixed, the destination has to do the work, which is what the rest of this page is about. If they are flexible even by a few days, taking Christmas week or the first week of January widens the choice of houses more than any other decision you can make.
If you want the whole of December in the sun, see our guide to warm destinations in December.
Four houses with a chef and household team in the rate
Two in the Caribbean and two in Costa Rica, each listed for Christmas and New Year 2026–27 and each fully staffed. Availability moves daily in this window, so treat them as a starting point and ask for the houses open on your exact dates.

01St Barts — yacht-season glamour
St Barts is the choice if you want festive polish by night and villa privacy by day. The high season runs from December to April and New Year’s week is its center: the harbor fills with yachts, the restaurants of Gustavia and St Jean serve their best menus of the year, and the fireworks over the port are watched from terraces across the island.
In the scene
- Gustavia: harbor dinners, the shops, the fireworks at your feet.
- St Jean: the beach clubs and the easiest way into the social week.
Near it, not in it
- Lurin and Gouverneur: hillside houses above the calmest beaches.
- Colombier and Pointe Milou: the sunset side, with the energy ten minutes away.

That distinction is where first-time guests either win the week or book the wrong mood. The island gives you warm-weather certainty, a visible atmosphere and enough villas to choose your exact energy level, which makes it ideal for couples, groups of friends and style-conscious families.
For deeper planning, pair this page with our St Barts luxury villa rentals guide and the best time to visit St Barts. If the question is which week to take, Christmas week versus New Year’s week on St Barts sets out the difference in minimum stays and atmosphere, and New Year’s Eve in a St Barts villa shows the night from a terrace above Gustavia. Our full St Barts villa rentals are listed by neighborhood.
02Turks and Caicos — barefoot privacy
Turks and Caicos is the answer if your ideal festive week is sunny, low-friction and chef-led. Most of the homes that suit a festive group sit on Grace Bay, Long Bay and Turtle Tail, and all of them are in our Turks and Caicos villa rentals. The appeal is ease: late December brings warm days, cooler evenings and calm water, so children can be outside all day while the adults keep an easy evening rhythm with a private chef, a rooftop cinema or dinner served on the sand.

Among the best places to go for New Year’s, this is the clearest choice for travelers who want the beach without the noise: three generations, milestone birthdays and family reunions sharing a staffed beachfront villa. Turks and Caicos villas with a private chef shows the format with sample menus, and our piece on New Year’s in Turks and Caicos shows how the islands celebrate.
03Costa Rica — adventure with polish
Costa Rica is the choice if you want nature, movement and excellent private-home living in the same trip. The Pacific dry season begins in mid-December and runs to late April, with microclimates still applying, which is why the staffed homes in our Costa Rica villas collection are among the first to go for the festive fortnight.

- Papagayo for families or groups who want golf, beach clubs and seamless service.
- Tamarindo and Playa Hermosa for travelers who want a little more life around town.
- Uvita and Manuel Antonio for guests who care most about scenery, wildlife and a house open to the landscape.
Costa Rica earns its place for one reason above all: range. Some groups want surf, jungle, zipline days and barefoot dinners; others want a design-led estate in Papagayo with resort access, wellness space and a chef. The country does both without losing its sense of place. If you are still choosing a region, read where to stay in Costa Rica.
04Los Cabos — design, sun and easy access
Los Cabos is the answer if you want dramatic views, quick arrivals and homes built for entertaining. Our houses are in Pedregal, Palmilla and the Corridor. In Palmilla, Villas Del Mar 313 is about 25 kilometers from the airport, with the transfer, a personal chef and a butler included: the kind of arrival that matters after a year-end flight. The airport has nonstop flights from most large US cities.

Pedregal
- Cinematic Pacific views and a sense of arrival.
- The nightlife within reach, out of earshot.
- For the half of the group that wants the scene.
Palmilla and the Corridor
- Quieter and residential, with golf and beach-club days.
- Calm, swimmable water for children.
- For the half of the group that wants to sleep.
Large homes here also spread the week well across couples and families: you are choosing outdoor living, ocean-facing terraces, staff and short transfers, not only a bedroom count. Start with our Los Cabos villa rentals for a clean shortlist.
05Punta Cana — gated estates for three generations
Punta Cana is the choice if your group wants easy beach weather, golf and a home that behaves like a private resort. Our Punta Cana villas are in Cap Cana and Puntacana Resort and Club, both gated, and the week falls in the driest stretch of the year, as our month-by-month guide to the best time to visit Punta Cana explains.

Inside Puntacana Resort and Club, Corales, Arrecife and Cap Cana, many of the newer homes pair family floor plans with a chef, a butler and daily housekeeping, which removes nearly every daily decision. This is the destination for three generations because the layouts are usually right: bunk rooms, large lawns, golf carts, meals cooked at home and enough bedrooms for grandparents, children and friends at once. The best Punta Cana stays are less about nightlife than about ease.
06Tulum — for groups who love design and wellness
Tulum is the answer if you want festive energy, striking design and a more bohemian mood. It works best for groups who value atmosphere and architecture, and a schedule that moves easily between yoga, the beach, long dinners and late nights.

Soliman Bay and Tankah suit travelers who want quiet and space: Cenote Del Mar, a fully staffed eight-bedroom house in Tankah, is one of them. Closer to town suits guests who want to feel the pulse of the Riviera Maya. That choice decides whether Tulum is one of the best places to go for New Year’s or one of the most tiring.
Tulum rewards groups who book the house before the party. The beachfront homes of Soliman Bay and Tankah are in our Tulum villas with a private chef, and festive weeks there carry longer minimum stays than the rest of the season, so the earlier the enquiry, the wider the choice.
07Courchevel 1850 — alpine glamour
Courchevel 1850 is the choice if your ideal celebration involves snow, fireplaces and a polished mountain scene. Our Courchevel 1850 chalets are gathered in one collection, our catered ski chalet guide for winter 2026–27 explains what a catered week includes, and families who cannot decide between snow and sand will find the trade-offs in Christmas in the Alps or the Caribbean.

The ski area usually opens on the first Saturday of December and runs to the third week of April, so late December is one of the prime chalet weeks of the winter; we confirm the 2026–27 dates before you book. Slopeside access matters more than almost anything else, because walking in ski boots at year-end quickly becomes the wrong kind of memory. Here luxury is warm lighting, a sauna after skiing, children back from lessons and dinner at home while the snow falls beyond the terrace. It suits ski families, couples who love the mountains and groups who want the chalet to double as an elegant après-ski address.
What decides a festive-week rate, and what to watch
The seven destinations sit in very different bands, so the useful question is not which is cheapest but what the week buys. These are the things that move the number, and every quote sets them out in writing before you commit.
- The week itself. December 26 to January 2 carries each house’s longest minimum stay, usually seven nights and often ten to fourteen at the most requested houses; many owners sell a fixed festive block that has to be taken whole.
- The staff included. A chef and a butler in the rate change the total far more than a bedroom count, and “fully staffed” means different things from one villa to the next, especially for chef hours, groceries, butler hours and holiday supplements. We state it house by house.
- The setting and the length of stay. Beachfront, fairway, hillside or slopeside, and seven nights against fourteen. Government tax and service are added to villa rates and stated per house; food and drink usually sit outside them.
- Event and sound rules. A villa built for holidays is not always licensed for outside guests, amplified music or formal events. Ask before the invitations go out.
- Seasons and climate. Courchevel usually runs from early December into April; Costa Rica’s dry season suits the year-end, but conditions shift with the coast, the altitude and the forest.
- The last mile. Airport-to-villa times, gated access, stairs and the path to the beach can matter as much as the photographs. For the island shortlist, our guide to a Caribbean luxury villa for New Year’s Eve goes house by house.
