2027 in Costa Rica: the weeks that book first

Luxury travelers are booking further ahead than a year ago: in October 2026 Travel Weekly reported that a leading luxury operator’s median lead time in the US market has lengthened by 20%, and at Virtuoso Travel Week in August, advisors reported future leisure sales one and two years out up 50%.

For Christmas, New Year and Easter the largest houses on the Papagayo Peninsula and in Guanacaste are confirmed 9 to 12 months before arrival, so the 2027 calendar is being written now. Choose a week to see which villas are free, or tell us your month and how flexible you are.

The Haute Retreats difference

What a stay with Haute Retreats includes

Costa Rica has the beaches and the rainforest. What we add is the planning before you arrive and the people on the ground while you are there.

The Haute Standard

A 21-day pre-arrival protocol on every booking: preferences and dietary needs captured, the house team briefed, provisioning set, transfers timed to your flights, and a written run-of-stay before you leave home.

Every service in writing

What is included differs from villa to villa, and we set it out before you pay. At Villa Enoki on the Papagayo Peninsula, for example, the stay includes a villa manager, daily housekeeping, 24-hour security and the use of a golf cart.

A welcome in person

Every guest is greeted in person on arrival with a welcome amenity chosen for the house, and a member of the local team is on hand throughout the stay.

A concierge for the whole coast

Private chefs, surf lessons, excursions into the rainforest, spa treatments in the villa, a nanny or a yoga teacher, and transfers, arranged by your 24/7 concierge.

Destination guide

Costa Rica villa rentals: the complete guide

Costa Rica is a villa destination on two scales: houses on the beaches of the Pacific, and homes above the rainforest, where the day starts on the terrace. All our Costa Rica villas are on the Pacific side, in Guanacaste in the north and on the Central and South Pacific.

Where the best villas are

The Papagayo Peninsula is a gated peninsula in Guanacaste, with estates above Prieta Bay and Bahía Culebra. Further south, Playa Langosta and Tamarindo have houses on the sand and a lively beach town. Santa Teresa, at the tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, is the surf coast, with villas in the jungle above Malpaís. Los Sueños Resort, on Herradura Bay, has a marina, a beach club and a golf course, and in the south, Manuel Antonio, Dominical and Bahía Ballena are rainforest coast.

Villas for families and large groups

For a large group, Castillo Colonial near Nosara sleeps 34 in fifteen bedrooms across four villas, each with its own kitchen. Villa Avellana takes 23 guests in ten bedrooms, and Casa Lanui with Casa Taman next door sleeps 28. Casa Frenchie sleeps 18 in a main house and a guest house, and Casa Riverstone, above Dominical, has a separate casita with its own kitchen, for grandparents or a nanny.

Chefs, staff and what is included

It depends on the house. Villa Avellana, The Hive, The Point and Villa Mariposa Azul are fully staffed. At Casa Perla, breakfast is cooked each morning and the stay includes daily maid service and membership of the Langosta Beach Club. At Casa Lanui, daily housekeeping, turndown and breakfast preparation are included, and at many other villas a private chef is arranged on request. We set out the staff and services for each villa in writing.

Getting to Costa Rica

Costa Rica has two international airports. Liberia (LIR), in Guanacaste, is the one for the Papagayo Peninsula, Tamarindo and Nosara, with nonstop flights from Atlanta, Boston, Detroit and Minneapolis–St. Paul all year, and from New York JFK on Saturdays from December 19, 2026 to April 10, 2027. San José (SJO) serves Los Sueños and the south: Anjali, in Manuel Antonio, is about 2 hours 50 minutes away by road. For Santa Teresa, a short domestic flight lands at Tambor. Your concierge arranges the transfers, timed to your flights.

Minimum stays

Most villas ask for one. Three nights is usual, and some ask for more: Casa Tropical at Los Sueños, for example, asks for seven. We confirm the minimum for your dates in writing.

When to go

The best time to visit Costa Rica

On the Pacific coast the year has two seasons, dry and green, and each suits a different trip.

December to April

The dry season

Sunny, dry weeks on the Pacific, above all in Guanacaste. Christmas, New Year, Presidents’ week and Easter are the weeks that book first.

May and June

The first rains

Green hills, showers that come mostly in the afternoon and quieter beaches, with more choice of houses.

July and August

The green season

Warm days and green forest, with rain mostly in the afternoons and quieter weeks along the coast.

September to November

The wettest weeks

September and October bring the most rain. By late November the dry season returns, Thanksgiving week included.

Book 9 to 12 months ahead for Christmas, New Year and Easter, and 6 to 9 months ahead for other weeks.
