Casa Aramara is the house people mean when they say Punta Mita. It sits directly on its own white-sand beach on the Bay of Banderas — not above it, not a short walk from it, but on it, with the swimmable, rock-free sand a few steps from the gardens. Twelve bedrooms across a main house, a guest house and a garden villa sleep twenty-two. More than thirty staff run it, two five-star chefs cook every meal, a butler and a concierge are on call around the clock, and a doctor is available twenty-four hours a day. Where exactly is Casa Aramara?

Punta Mita is a private peninsula on Mexico’s Pacific coast at the northern tip of Banderas Bay, in the state of Nayarit, about forty-five minutes north of Puerto Vallarta international airport. The Sierra Madre rises behind it and one of the largest bays in the world opens in front, which is why the whales come in from December to March.

The estate occupies a beachfront position with landscaped gardens and mature palms running down to the sand. The beach is private, white and fully swimmable, free of rocks — worth saying plainly, because much of this coast is not. Two Jack Nicklaus signature golf courses, the peninsula’s beach clubs and its restaurants are all a few minutes away, and the villa keeps two luxury vans and Mercedes cars for guests, with drivers.

What is the house like inside?

The villa was designed by the architect Jaime Barba with interiors by Martyn Lawrence Bullard, and completely renovated in 2019. The result is colour rather than beige: a deliberate cavalcade of strong hues drawn from the gardens and the sea, which is what makes the photographs recognisable and the rooms feel alive rather than catalogue-neutral.

The kitchen is a professional one, and the dining room seats twenty at a single table, with a pagoda-covered table outside for the meals that happen al fresco. A twenty-person media room runs THX sound and 4K 3D projection. A games room holds billiards, air hockey and darts. There is a business centre with high-speed internet, copier and scanning, for the guest who cannot quite switch off.

The technology is unusually thorough: Crestron and Lutron control lighting and sound across the whole property from an iPad, with more than a hundred speakers, Sonos, Spotify and satellite radio; fibre runs at 500 Mbps throughout, including poolside and on the beach. Every room has an Anything button that reaches a staff member twenty-four hours a day, which is the single feature guests mention most.

How are the bedrooms arranged?

Twelve bedrooms and twelve bathrooms across three buildings, which is what allows twenty-two people to share a house without sharing a corridor.

Every bedroom has air conditioning and a ceiling fan, a 4K television with Apple TV, a mini-bar, Egyptian cotton sheets at 600 thread count, and a bathroom with a deep tub and separate shower. Bath products are Molton Brown, Kiehl’s and Aveda. Fresh fruit is delivered to the suites daily.

The four master suites take the couples; the bunk room and the Queen rooms absorb children and teenagers; and the garden villa gives a second family its own front door.

What is outside?

Two heated pools, with the temperature adjustable so that the water is right for an evening or a late-night swim, and an elevated hot tub beside them. A large children’s pool comes stocked with toys and floats. Poolside the staff bring ice water, chilled towels and sunblock without being asked.

A tennis court sits within the grounds. Beyond the gardens, the private beach runs out to the bay, and the concierge arranges the water sports, the boats and the beach set-ups.

For celebrations, the estate can take a firework display and a DJ poolside, which is why it works as a wedding and milestone-birthday house as well as a family one.

Is the villa staffed?

Fully, and then some. More than thirty trained staff run the property. Two five-star chefs prepare every meal, to the party’s preferences and dietary requirements, with a children’s menu as standard. Butler and concierge service run twenty-four hours. Housekeeping comes twice a day with evening turndown. Security is on site around the clock. A doctor is on call twenty-four hours and pharmacy delivery is available. Laundry is same-day, and the staff will unpack and pack for you.

Every member of staff is trained in CPR and life-saving procedures, and the property keeps cardiac defibrillators on site. All water in the house is purified by reverse osmosis, UV, silica and carbon filtration.

A fitness centre carries current cardio and strength equipment, with a personal trainer and yoga classes on request, and spa treatments are booked and delivered on the property.

Who is Casa Aramara right for?

Three or four families travelling together, a multi-generational reunion, a milestone birthday, or a wedding week. It is built for groups with children — childproofed rooms, cribs, strollers, high chairs, car seats, a kids’ menu, a welcome with their names on it — while still being a house that twenty-two adults can take over entirely.

It also suits the party that wants to arrive and decide nothing: the meals, the drinks, the transport and the staffing are already handled, and the Anything button covers the rest.

Rates

Minimum stay three nights. Rates are subject to 16% tax and a 10% service charge, with a refundable security deposit of USD 15,000. Availability and rates are subject to change.

Included: the full staff, all meals prepared by the chefs, beverages and mini-bar, round-trip airport transfers, the vehicles, internet, and the great majority of the activities and facilities on the property.

Not included: specific spa treatments, excursions and tours beyond the standard offering, and premium alcohol beyond the house selection.

Good to know

A few days at Casa Aramara

Breakfast brought to the pagoda table, then the morning on your own sand, with the staff carrying out towels, water and umbrellas before anyone asks.

A boat out into Banderas Bay — whales from December to March, snorkelling at the Marietas, and lunch back at the villa.

Golf on one of the two Nicklaus courses while the rest of the party stays between the two heated pools and the spa.

The last night at home: the long table set for twenty, both chefs cooking, a DJ poolside, and fireworks over the bay.
