Villa Cetinale
Description
Welcome to this wonderful Renaissance Retreat: Villa Cetinale!
It is a Roman Baroque mansion with imposing statues, stately gardens, deep oak, a perfect destination for a family holiday in the countryside or even an intimate wedding in Tuscany. Though this luxury villa rental is tucked away on acres of private land, it’s not far from the picturesque city of Siena and several famous hill towns.
Originally built in 1680 it transformed the ruins of an Etruscan settlement into a Roman Baroque villa for Pope Alexander VII. This grandiose Tuscan villa fringes the equally historic walled city of Siena, and offers easy access to the archetypal Tuscan towns of Volterra and San Gimignano. Siena’s world famous horse race, the Palio of Siena, was actually held in the property’s wood on seven occasions because of riots in the city. So take care when out for a stroll!
The magnificent and extensive garden, with its climbing roses, vine-covered pergolas, antique statues and the Scala Santa (Holy Stair), has been called the epitome of garden design. It’s one of the most beautiful gardens in Italy.
The garden and the private chapel in front of the main house provide the perfect setting for large family gatherings. Take a moment to sit in its magical spaces with a glass of Chianti, and consider the people who have sat here before you. They include the head of the Catholic church and British Aristocracy.
The villa has been immaculately restored to offer every modern amenity. Its interiors are sumptuous and elegant. A private swimming pool, tennis court and a full-time staff ensure that your stay is comfortable.
Villa Cetinale is a grand and exceptional home with a long and fascinating history. It’s the perfect base for exploring the rest of Tuscany or simply celebrating an occasion in utterly splendid style.
Parts of the villa itself date from 1651, after which the house was gradually transformed into the grand country retreat it is today. Its gracefully proportioned living and dining rooms feature stone floors, vaulted ceilings, large windows overlooking the gardens and woods, and even details like trompe l’oeil paintings. Though chef service is included in your stay, this property has two fully equipped kitchens.
It is a thirteen bedrooms villa connected with staircases combining the charm of the period when it was built.
There are six rooms with double beds and en-suite bathrooms, two with double beds that share a bathroom, and one with a double bed that shares a bath with a room with two twin beds. For younger guests, there’s one room with two twin beds and an en-suite bathroom, and one room with a twin bed that shares a bath with the children’s room, which has four twin beds.
Villa Cetinale is set near Sovicille where you’ll find a restaurant, market, pharmacy, bank and more, as well as several well-preserved hill towns, from Monteriggioni to San Gimignano. Conveniently close to Siena. Search for secret swimming spots in the hills above Brenna, or take a trip to the coast, about 1 hour away, for a day at the beach.
