Villa Ivana

Villa Ivana is a seventeenth-century villa at the foot of Cortona, frescoed on two floors, with nine bedrooms, a private chapel and a 15-metre pool inside a fenced park of five thousand square metres. It has hosted gala dinners for princes and a president, and it takes weddings. Eighteen guests, 6 km from the town.

Nine bedrooms sleep eighteen, eight doubles and one twin, with ten bathrooms between them. We’d put it forward for a wedding party that wants the ceremony in the chapel and the dinner in the frescoed rooms, or for a large family reunion that needs a billiards table and a lawn as much as beds. THE GROUND FLOOR

More than four hundred square metres: an entrance hall, a vaulted living room with frescoed walls, an antique billiards table, a fireplace and satellite TV, a second sitting room with a dining table, a fully equipped kitchen with a door to the garden, and a guest bathroom. Antique furniture, tapestries, painted ceilings and terracotta floors run through a house restored recently with modern fittings set into the original materials.

THE BEDROOMS

Seven bedrooms and a sitting room take the first floor, whose frescoed rooms served the gala suppers, Sandro Pertini’s among them. Rooms one and two have double beds and en-suites with hydromassage bath and shower, and connect for a family; room three is a twin on a loft above the sitting room, with an en-suite shower; room four is a double with a bath, rooms five and six doubles with showers, and room seven a double with its shower room across the corridor. The second floor adds a sitting room, the laundry and two more doubles, one with a hydromassage bath and shower, one with a shower. Four-poster beds and bathrooms of inlaid marble are the house style.

THE PARK

A flat, fenced park of about five thousand square metres, with centuries-old trees, pots of lemons around the house and a row of oleanders along the paved drive. The pool measures 15 by 5 metres, between one and two metres deep, fenced, and open from 1 May to 15 October; a few steps from it a large gazebo on stone columns holds marble tables and chairs for meals outside. A tree-lined drive leads from the gate to a large parking area, and the chapel stands within the grounds.

THE SERVICE

Two maids clean for two hours every day. Air-conditioning, heating, linen, bath and pool towels, Wi-Fi, pool and garden upkeep and final cleaning are included. Board games, a DVD player, a Bluetooth hi-fi, a cot and a high chair are in the house. Children are welcome, pets cost EUR 50 per animal per week, and events are allowed. Check-in runs from 4 pm to 7 pm, check-out by 10 am.

THE LOCATION

A restaurant is 1.2 km away on foot, and Terontola, with shops, a supermarket and the railway station, 3.5 km. Cortona is 6 km, Lake Trasimeno 17, Montepulciano 30, Arezzo 33, Perugia and the Antognolla golf course 44, Perugia Airport 60 and Florence Airport 120.
