Description

Villa Solis is a seven-bedroom villa for up to 14 guests in Terres Basses, the gated residential enclave on the French side of St Martin. It sits on the hillside looking west over the lowlands, so the pool terrace takes the last of the light each evening. Every bedroom has its own bathroom, which makes the house an easy fit for two or three families travelling together, or a group gathering for a milestone celebration.

The house
The interiors are mid-century modern, renovated throughout. A pink front door opens onto a single open living space: a sitting area with a TV corner, a wood-toned kitchen with terrazzo countertops, and a dining area built around a travertine table made for the house.

Outdoor living
A long run of glass doors opens the living room onto the terrace, where custom outdoor sofas, loungers around the pool, an outdoor kitchen with barbecue and a dining table for the whole group set the rhythm of the day. One level down, a garden lounge with three oversized daybeds is the quiet corner for reading and afternoon sun. A dedicated spa room accommodates massages for two at a time.

Location
Terres Basses lies between the Caribbean Sea and Simpson Bay Lagoon, a neighbourhood of private homes rather than hotels. From Villa Solis, the calm water of Baie Longue and the livelier Mullet Bay are a short drive away, as are the restaurants of Cupecoy, Maho and Simpson Bay, and Princess Juliana International Airport. For guests who would rather wake up on the sand, Villa Atabeya sits directly on Baie Rouge, also in Terres Basses.
