Villa Vista Lago
Description
A six-bedroom lakefront estate between Laglio and Tremezzo, with a resident chef and a heated saltwater pool above the water.
Some houses on Lake Como are admired for their façades. Vista Lago is remembered for the view from inside them. Set on the western shore between Laglio and Tremezzo, the villa faces the lake head-on, and the water is present in almost every room — silver at first light, deep blue by midday, gold across the far mountains at dusk. Six bedrooms, a resident chef, a private park and a heated panoramic saltwater pool make this one of the most complete private estates on the lake.
The main salon is the heart of the villa: an expansive room wrapped in panoramic windows, arranged so that every seat holds the lake. Beyond it, a formal dining room with a working fireplace seats twelve beneath the water’s reflected light — the room where long Italian dinners naturally end up. A separate entertainment room, also with a fireplace, holds a smart television, streaming, and a shelf of board games for the slower hours. A library opens directly onto the garden, and a discreet study corner with a workstation and printer means the world can be attended to briefly and then set aside.
An elevator serves every level of the house, from the garage to the top floor, and one of the six bedrooms sits on the ground floor with step-free access.
Six bedrooms, six bathrooms, for up to eleven guests.
The ground-floor bedroom is a king with garden views and full accessibility. Four king and king-twin rooms occupy the first floor, split between lake and garden aspects, and a further bedroom with a French bed sits on the second. Every room has its own en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, a safe, a television and memory-foam-topped bedding.
SPA AND WELLNESS
A full wellness floor sits within the house: a Turkish bath, an emotional shower, a dedicated massage room, a fitness space, and — the villa’s most characterful detail — an antique cold-plunge tub, still in use.
GARDENS, POOL AND TERRACES
The grounds are a private fenced park: clipped lawns, sculpted planting and Mediterranean greenery falling in terraces toward the water. The heated saltwater pool runs sixteen metres by seven, positioned for uninterrupted views across the lake, and is heated from May through September.
Around it, several gazebos offer shade at different hours of the day, and a covered patio holds lounge and dining furniture for meals outside. There is an outdoor kitchen with a barbecue, an outdoor shower, and — the detail guests write home about — a wood-burning pizza oven, which the chef will happily fire on request. Two kayaks are kept for the house.
SERVICE
Vista Lago is fully staffed. A resident chef prepares lunch and dinner, up to eight hours a day, six days a week — market-led menus, or whatever the household happens to want that evening. Breakfast is set out each morning as an American buffet between eight and half past ten. Housekeeping attends each morning, six days a week, with bath linen changed daily and bed linen mid-week. A local concierge handles boat charters, restaurant tables, drivers and private guides, and a gardener and pool technician keep the estate in order without ever being underfoot.
Waiter service for larger dinners, additional housekeeping, personal laundry and a grocery-provisioning service can all be arranged in advance.
THE LOCATION
The nearest serviced village is a four-minute walk — a bar, a bakery, the ordinary rhythm of lake life. The hydrofoil harbour and bus stop are within a kilometre, so Bellagio, Varenna and Menaggio are a short crossing rather than a drive. Como sits thirty-five minutes south, Milan Malpensa sixty-five minutes west, and Milan itself is close enough for a day of shopping and a return in time for dinner.
Nearby, the cable car at Pigra climbs to a mountain village with views across the nature reserve; the lake below is given over to waterskiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing and long slow afternoons on a chartered boat. An eighteen-hole golf course lies eleven kilometres from the gate. For dinner off the estate, two Michelin-starred kitchens are within easy reach — Materia at Cernobbio and the restaurant at Sheraton Como — alongside the lakeside tables at Carate Urio and Brienno that locals keep for themselves.
Air conditioning and central heating throughout. Wi-Fi, Sky package and streaming. Covered private garage for up to six cars, with elevator access to the house. Children are welcome; two cribs and two highchairs are provided. Non-smoking. Minimum stay seven nights.
Vista Lago is a house for the kind of week that doesn’t need an itinerary: breakfast on the terrace, the pool through the middle of the day, a boat at five, and dinner by the fire with the lake going dark below.
