Balinese Villa
Description
On a crescent-shaped ridge above the Turks and Caicos Banks in Turtle Tail, Balinese Villa pairs Caribbean building with Balinese and Indonesian craft, and wraps its three bedrooms around a stone infinity pool that two of them step straight into.
Six guests, three bedrooms, three bathrooms. We’d suggest it to three couples or a family of six who want the sea in every room, since the king and both queens face the ocean. Of the villas in Turks and Caicos we place, it’s the one where you swim from the bedroom.
THE HOUSE
You arrive past a river-stone wall of cascading water, 75 feet by 39, lined with coconut palms. Inside, 4,200 square feet begin with a great room under 30-foot vaulted ceilings with cedar beams, travertine marble underfoot and patterned Asian pearl-stone tiles on the walls. To the right, the kitchen: Viking stainless steel, a six-burner gas stove, black granite, an island with stools. A teak dining table to the left seats six. Off the sunken living room, a granite bar holds an icemaker, a beverage fridge and a wine cooler, and a 50-inch plasma screen rises out of low cabinetry on a hydraulic lift. Slide the glass pocket doors back and the living room opens onto the pool terrace. Smart TVs in the great room and every bedroom, a Bose system with surround sound, air conditioning throughout.
THE BEDROOMS
At 35 by 39 feet, the master suite has glass doors meeting at a right angle toward the sea, and the pool is a step away. Its bathroom has a raised tub under a waterfall showerhead, a separate shower, twin copper vessel sinks and a separate WC, and the walk-in closet is lined in coconut wood. Outside, a private courtyard keeps a carved Indonesian daybed. In the opposite wing, two queen rooms each have an ensuite, ocean views, glass doors onto the poolside and a balcony with a handmade Balinese daybed. One of them is set along the angle of the pool, with its own steps down into the water.
THE POOL AND THE GAZEBO
Built of emerald green stone and three-angled, the pool runs the full width of the house; the two bedroom wings close it into a hexagon, and an arched bridge crosses one end. Fifty feet by fifteen, four to five feet deep, no lifeguard. Beyond it, a limestone path leads to a thatched gazebo of coconut and alang-alang with roll-down straw blinds. Then the path goes on, down several steps, into the sea. Beach chairs, an umbrella, a cooler and towels are in the house, plus a barbecue grill.
THE SERVICE
A weekly stay includes one midweek cleaning. No daily staff or chef are listed, so mention any extra help you’d like when you book. Washer and dryer, a safe, a security system, Wi-Fi.
THE RULES
Add the 12 per cent government tax to the rates. Air conditioning runs on a separate meter, billed at the market rate plus 12 per cent. Six is the ceiling, two per bedroom, babies included. Stays generally run Saturday to Saturday: five nights minimum until 20 November and from 4 September to 19 November 2027, seven otherwise. No smoking, no pets, no events. Check-in from 4 pm, check-out by 10 am.
THE LOCATION
Sixteen minutes by car from Providenciales International Airport, seven from the nearest supermarket, two from a small beach. Central Grace Bay, with its restaurants and Provo Golf Club, is about 13 minutes away. If you’re weighing this stretch against the lagoon side, our piece on Chalk Sound, Turtle Tail and Sapodilla Bay compared sets the three side by side.
