Villa Carlisa
Description
Villa Carlisa stands in the heart of Chianti, within walking distance of Radda, where the hills fold into one another in a way that has drawn travellers to this part of Tuscany for centuries. The estate sits among vineyards, olive groves and woodland — the landscape that gives the region its character, and its wine.
Florence and Siena are within easy reach, as are the medieval villages, castles, abbeys and monasteries scattered across the surrounding countryside. Days here are shaped as much by what is close at hand as by what is worth the drive.
At the centre of the property is its medieval tower, restored and given a second life as a private wine bar. Guests gather here for a glass at the end of the afternoon, with the valley opening out beyond the windows.
The heated pool is set within the garden, with a gazebo positioned for the view and for the hours when nothing more is required than shade and stillness. The owners produce their own wine, and tastings and visits to the winery can be arranged.
Elsewhere in the grounds there is a playground for younger guests and a shaded patio for breakfast and long, unhurried meals in the open air. Indoors, a well-equipped gym and a wellness area with hydromassage and sauna are given over entirely to the rhythm of the stay.
The professional kitchen is available for cooking lessons led by the villa’s staff — an afternoon spent learning the dishes of the region, in the place they come from.
