Casa Barana

On Thompson Cove, inside a private gated community on the Blue Mountain side of Providenciales, Casa Barana holds 135 feet of ocean frontage and a shallow stretch of water by the shore that suits children. Six bedrooms in a modern Tuscan-style house, a courtyard pool with a jacuzzi, and kayaks for the cove.

Twelve guests sleep in six bedrooms: two kings, three queens and a twin room whose beds join into a king. We’d put it forward for two or three families, or for grandparents bringing the grandchildren, since the twin room beside the master is ideal for kids. THE HOUSE

Over 4,000 square feet inside are split between two wings. In the east wing you’ll find the kitchen, the dining room, a great room with a large flat-screen TV and satellite service, a powder room and one bedroom, plus a laundry with two washers and two dryers and a back door to an outdoor shower. Cooks get a dishwasher, a wine cooler, a Nespresso machine and even a waffle iron. Air conditioning and ceiling fans run throughout, Wi-Fi reaches the pool, and the alarm is monitored around the clock. Almost two acres of grounds surround the property, with lush gardens and fruit trees.

THE BEDROOMS

Five of the six bedrooms are in the west wing. Upstairs, the master has a king bed, a bar sink, a mini fridge, a wine cooler and a veranda overlooking the ocean; its bathroom, with a walk-in shower and a double vanity, is shared with the room next door, where two twins convert to a king and a large deck opens out. Each of the three main-level rooms has a private entrance, an en-suite and a patio. Elsewhere the beds are a king with a deep soaking tub and three queens, one with a patio overlooking the pool and one with a garden patio. Satellite TV in every bedroom, a hair dryer in every bathroom.

THE BEACH AND THE COURTYARD

A beachfront patio and a beach deck with loungers come with chairs, umbrellas, towels and a cooler, plus kayaks and plenty of beach and pool toys. Snorkelling starts right from the shore, and a kayak gets you to the cove nearby. In the courtyard, over 2,000 square feet of it, the pool measures 25 by 11 feet, with a jacuzzi and LED lighting; there’s no lifeguard. A BBQ grill and an ice maker cover dinner outdoors. And Shay’s on the Beach and Da Conch Shack are about ten minutes away on foot along the sand.

THE SERVICE

A week’s stay includes one midweek clean. A caretaker is on site and a property manager is on call. No daily staff are listed, so treat the kitchen and the grill as yours.

THE RULES

Rates exclude the 12% government tax. Air conditioning is included up to $400 a week, with any excess charged back at market rate plus 12% tax. Rates assume two people per bedroom, babies and infants included. Stays are usually weekly, Saturday to Saturday, seven nights minimum. Smoking, pets and events aren’t allowed. Check-in is after 4 pm and check-out before 10 am.

THE LOCATION
