Description

Crowsnest is the corner penthouse at Coral Cove, a beachfront residence on Paynes Bay in St. James, and the corner is the point: the terrace wraps around two sides of the apartment, with Paynes Bay in front of it. Three bedrooms, six guests, and a beach attendant setting out the sunbeds below.

Three en-suite bedrooms sleep six. We’d suggest it for two couples or a family of four who want the beach outside the door and restaurants nearby, without the scale or the cost of a full villa. Among the villas in Barbados on our books, it’s the penthouse we’d put forward for a first stay on the west coast.

THE PENTHOUSE

Floor-to-ceiling glass doors open the living area onto the terrace, and the plan runs open from kitchen to lounge under high ceilings. There’s a breakfast bar, a cloak room, a wine fridge, a safe, satellite TV and Wi-Fi, with air-conditioning in the bedrooms and the living area and ceiling fans throughout. An elevator serves the floor. Parking is private and on site.

THE TERRACE

The wrap-around terrace is where the apartment earns its name. Dining is outside under the stars, the view runs the length of Paynes Bay, and the building also has a rooftop terrace. Covered sections keep the midday shade.

THE BEDROOMS

The master has a king bed, the sea view and a bathroom with a soaking tub and a rain shower you walk into. Bedroom Two takes twin beds or a king, Bedroom Three a king, both facing the garden, and both en suite.

THE BEACH

Coral Cove is a gated beachfront property with direct access to the sand and a shared garden. A beach attendant looks after the sunbeds, with beach chairs, towels and essentials provided. A beach bar and restaurants are close by along the bay.

THE SERVICE

A housekeeper who also cooks comes six days a week in every season, with a gardener, a security guard and the beach attendant in place year-round. A concierge manager and a property manager are on call seven days a week, and the complex has 24-hour security. Check-in is from 3 pm and check-out by noon; a late check-out can be bought for half a night’s rate.
