Tortuga H4

Tortuga H4 is an eight-bedroom house a few steps from La Cana Beach and the La Cana Golf & Beach Club, inside Puntacana Resort & Club, with the beach under five minutes on foot, the clubhouse two minutes by golf cart, a pool, daily housekeeping in the rate and a chef and a butler to add. Twenty guests, nine bathrooms, two private beach clubs for guests.

Eight en-suite bedrooms sleep twenty, the owner’s cap: three kings, a queen, a room with two queens and three rooms with two double beds each. We’d put it forward for a family reunion or a destination celebration, or for a group of friends who’ll walk to the beach every morning. Of the Punta Cana villas we place, it’s the big one with the beach on foot.

THE HOUSE

Entertainment spaces inside and out, a dining room for twelve with seating indoors and outside, a sofa lounge, a balcony and a terrace, high ceilings and air-conditioning. The kitchen is fully equipped, with a dishwasher, an ice maker and a coffee machine, and an outdoor kitchen with a barbecue and gas grill is there for eating outside. Cable and smart TV, Wi-Fi, a safe, a washer and dryer, outdoor lighting and a welcome pack are in the house.

THE BEDROOMS

Every bedroom has its own bathroom and air-conditioning, with ceiling fans in seven. Bedrooms one to three have king beds, four has a queen, five has two queens, and six, seven and eight have two double beds each. Nine bathrooms, two of them with a bath as well as a shower and one with a toilet only; hairdryers and toiletries in the bathrooms with showers.

THE POOL AND THE BEACH

A pool, a patio and a lawn, on the golf course with the fairways in view and the sea near by. Beach towels are in the house, La Cana Beach is under five minutes on foot, the La Cana Clubhouse with its restaurants, pool, spa and golf is two minutes by golf cart, and guests may use two private beach clubs.

THE STAFF

Daily housekeeping is included. The owner’s listing names a private chef and a butler among the staff and then says both can be added for a fee, so we treat them as extras and confirm the terms when we quote. An English-speaking concierge books tee times, tennis courts and excursions and can arrange grocery shopping, airport transfers, golf cart rental, yacht and catamaran charters, fishing, car and bike rental, a personal trainer, a massage therapist, live music and decorations, all on request. Breakfast can be booked.

THE RULES

Quiet hours are 10 pm to 9 am, parties and events need written approval, smoking is for designated outdoor areas, drones are not allowed in the resort, and pets are accepted only with written authorisation before arrival. The resort asks for every guest’s ID or passport at least 48 hours before check-in. Security cameras cover the outside areas and are switched off during the stay. A refundable damage deposit of 10 per cent of the rent is taken on arrival and returned five days after check-out.

THE LOCATION

Puntacana Resort & Club has seven restaurants and bars, 45 holes of golf, twelve tennis courts on different surfaces, two beaches, a nature reserve and a marina. Puntacana Village, outside the gates, has eight restaurants, plus bars, shops and a pharmacy, and the Blue Mall is a few minutes away.
