Villa Paradisa

Villa Paradisa is a contemporary estate on the oceanfront at Long Bay, on the quiet south-eastern shore of Providenciales, built on a scale that very few houses in Turks and Caicos attempt. Eight king bedrooms, all en suite, sleep sixteen across a main house and a separate pavilion. Two heated pools sit above a sixty-foot sundeck; behind them are a tennis court, a basketball court, a yoga pavilion, a gym, a sauna, a treatment room and a ten-seat cinema. Where exactly is the villa, and what is the beach like?

Long Bay is the wide, shallow bay along the south-east of Providenciales, a few minutes’ drive from Grace Bay but a different world from it. The water here is turquoise, waist-deep for a long way out and flat as glass, and the steady trade winds have made it one of the best kitesurfing beaches anywhere in the Caribbean. On any given afternoon the bay is dotted with kites, which is a spectacle in itself from the sundeck.

The house stands above beach level, which gives it the long ocean view across the bay, with its own private beachfront below. It is a beach for walking, wading and watersports rather than a surf beach; the reef keeps the water calm, and children can go a long way out and still stand. Kite schools, paddleboards and boat charters all operate from the bay, and the concierge arranges lessons and equipment at the house.

Grace Bay, the twelve-mile stretch that made the island’s name, is about ten minutes away, with its restaurants, boutiques and beach clubs. The Bight Reef and Smith’s Reef, both snorkelling straight from the sand, are nearby, and Leeward Marina, the departure point for the outer cays, Half Moon Bay and Iguana Island, is fifteen minutes by car.

How do I get there?

Providenciales International Airport (PLS) is around twenty minutes from the villa, with direct flights from Miami in ninety minutes, New York in three hours and Toronto in four. Roundtrip airport transfers are included in the stay, so the first and last hours of the holiday are handled. A car is useful for exploring, and the concierge arranges hire or a driver.

What is the house like inside?

The architecture is contemporary and confident: floor-to-ceiling glass, honeyed marble, caramel stone, hardwood and a palette of ultra-luxe neutrals, lit by statement glass chandeliers in ocean blues and greens. The arrival is theatrical, up a curved drive lined with mature palms to a reflecting pool and a stone fountain at the entrance.

The living spaces are generous enough for sixteen people to gather or scatter as they please, with indoor and outdoor bars, a fully equipped kitchen for the chef, and a home office for anyone who cannot switch off entirely. A ten-seat cinema takes care of the evenings, and the rooftop sunset terrace takes care of the hour before them.

How are the bedrooms arranged?

Eight bedrooms, every one with a king bed and its own bathroom, which is the detail that makes this house work for a large party: nobody takes a twin room, nobody shares a bathroom.

Three are on the upper level of the main house and three on the ground level, each en suite. The remaining two are in a separate pavilion with their own en suites, a degree apart from the main house, which suits grandparents, a pair of couples, or the teenagers who want their own territory. Sixteen guests in total.

What is outside?

Two heated azure pools sit at the centre of the estate, with a sixty-foot sundeck running along them, outdoor dining and lounge areas, and a suspended circular day bed for the afternoon. Steps lead down to the private beachfront.

Beyond the pools the estate keeps going: a full tennis court with its own pavilion, a basketball court, a chess pavilion with a giant chess set, a yoga pavilion for morning sessions with the sea in view, and a plunge pool and jacuzzi beside the spa. It is a house where a group of sixteen can spend a week without leaving, which is rare even at this level.

Is the villa staffed?

Fully, and it is included rather than optional. A private chef cooks for the party, a butler looks after service through the day, a housekeeping team keeps the estate immaculate, and a dedicated concierge handles everything else: provisioning before arrival, restaurant reservations, boat and fishing charters, kitesurfing lessons on the bay, excursions to the outer cays, in-villa massage and treatments in the private treatment room, personal training in the gym, and babysitters. Wi-Fi runs throughout, and airport transfers are part of the stay.
