Chalet Enigma

An hour from Geneva Airport, in the Aravis range, Chalet Enigma stands about 100 metres from the La Clusaz slopes. Two minutes on foot, boots on. Inside are 404 square metres with an official five-star classification, and a private spa where the sauna looks straight out at the Étale massif.

Six bedrooms and a dormitory sleep up to fifteen guests, with six bathrooms between them, and the whole chalet is let to one group at a time. We’d put it forward for a family ski week or for friends who want the spa, the cinema and the cellar to themselves. Of the chalets in the French Alps on our books, it’s the first in La Clusaz.

THE CHALET

A wood fireplace anchors the living room, and outside the 74 m² terrace has heaters for the colder evenings. Lighting, heating and blinds run on home automation (multi-room audio and casting too), there’s Wi-Fi, and you come and go with a contactless QR code instead of keys. For film nights there’s a private cinema with a projector; for the rest, a dartboard. And the wine cellar has its own list, with bottles charged as you open them. Skis and boots go in a heated ski room with boot dryers.

THE SPA

Sauna, hammam, jacuzzi and a massage room make up the wellness area. Both the sauna and the jacuzzi face the mountains. Massages can be booked in at extra cost. Bedroom Six, on the lowest level, opens straight onto the garden terrace and the sauna, so it’s the room we’d give to whoever wants the spa first.

THE BEDROOMS

Five of the six bedrooms share the second level. Bedroom One has a king-size bed, a bathroom with tub and shower, a double basin, a separate toilet and its own terrace. Bedrooms Two to Five each have a queen-size bed and a walk-in shower, and Two and Three open onto private terraces as well. Bedroom Six adds a private kitchenette to its queen bed and walk-in shower. Up on the third level, the dormitory holds three single beds, a queen and pull-out trundles: where we’d put the children.

THE OUTDOORS

Beyond the terrace there’s a garden and a brazier for grilling outside in any season. Private parking takes four or five cars.

THE SERVICE

A dedicated chalet manager looks after the house, with concierge help before you arrive and during the stay, housekeeping before and after, and bed linen, towels and welcome amenities ready on arrival. VAT and tourist tax are already in the rate. Breakfast each morning, daytime cleaning and fresh linen mid-stay are offered as supplements. On request we can add a private chef (chef who has worked in Michelin-starred kitchens), a butler, in-chalet massages, VIP transfers, ski passes, babysitting or a collector car for the day.

THE LOCATION

Impasse des Merles is a two-minute walk from the slopes and ten minutes on foot from the village centre, with free shuttles running in season. Geneva Airport is about an hour by car, Annecy’s station and motorway 40 minutes, Lyon two hours. Off the slopes, hiking, cycling, yoga, e-mountain bikes and quads can all be arranged. SHORT STAYS

The chalet is priced by the week, Saturday to Saturday, and the nightly rates shown are that week divided by seven. Outside Christmas, New Year and the school holidays we can also quote fewer nights on request: up to three nights at 60% of the weekly rate, four to six nights at 80%.
