Four fully staffed chalets, three resorts, one season. This is what we hold for winter 2026/27 — two in Verbier, one above Zermatt with the Matterhorn in every window, and a six-suite forest estate in the French Alps — with the transfer times, the festive minimums and the weeks that are already going.
Almost everything written about luxury skiing is atmosphere. What decides a good week is duller and more useful: which airport you land at, how far the house sits from a lift, who is in the kitchen, and how early the fortnight you want has to be signed for. That is what follows.
The booking window, stated once
This is the part the internet gets wrong most often, usually by being reassuring. The honest version:
- Christmas and New Year (roughly 20 December to 5 January): twelve to fourteen months ahead for a specific flagship house. For 2026/27 that window has closed on the best of them; what is left is genuine but shorter on choice, and it moves weekly.
- January and early February: six to nine months is comfortable, and January is the connoisseur’s month — reliable snow, quiet pistes, and rates well below the festive peak.
- Half-term and Easter: nine to twelve months, because the dates are fixed by school calendars and everyone is chasing the same two weeks.
- Late March: the least competitive good skiing of the season. Long days, soft afternoons, and houses that were impossible in December.
Every chalet here carries a seven-night minimum over the festive weeks, and most run Saturday to Saturday. That matters more than it sounds: it means a Christmas-week request for five nights is not a smaller booking, it is a different conversation. Tell us the dates you actually want and we will say plainly whether they exist.
Domaine de l’Orme — French Alps
Domaine de l’Orme
Six suites arranged around a double-height great room, approached through spruce. The spa wing is the reason people choose it over a village address: hammam, massage room, a glass-walled indoor pool, and a sunken outdoor hot tub in the snow. Two reading salons and a bunk room for children make it the most workable of the four for three generations travelling together.
- Sleeps
- 12 adults, plus a children’s bunk suite
- Best for
- Family reunions that want silence rather than a village
- Trade-off
- No town on foot — everything is arranged to come to you

- On request
Chalet Dent Blanche — Verbier

Chalet Dent Blanche
Seven suites in the pines, and a three-minute walk from Verbier’s shops and tables — the combination most requests describe and few houses deliver. Exposed timbers and stone hearths inside; a cinema, an indoor pool, and an outdoor hot tub set over the valley. There is a lift to every floor and a children’s bunk suite, which together make it the easiest of the four for a party with both grandparents and toddlers in it.

- 12
- Best for
- Two generations who want the village on foot

Chalet Vicuña — Verbier
Chalet Vicuña
Six marble-clad suites, floor-to-ceiling glass onto the Combins massif, and a double-sided fireplace between the two living spaces. The lower level is the argument: heated pool, cold plunge, sauna and hammam, with a gym beside them. The wine-tasting lounge is the detail guests remember, and the reason this is the house our specialists suggest for a group of friends rather than a family.
- Sleeps
- 12
- Best for
- Friends travelling together; long dinners over early starts
- Wellness
- Heated pool, cold plunge, sauna, hammam, gym

Chalet McKinley — Zermatt
Chalet McKinley
Five suites in the 7 Heavens enclave, with the Matterhorn from every balcony — which in Zermatt is a claim worth checking, and here it holds. A massage room and a plunge-pool spa, an internal lift, a chef’s kitchen and a playroom, plus access to the residents’ lounge and gym. Zermatt is car-free, so arrival is by train from Täsch or by helicopter to the heliport.

- Best for
- Smaller parties, and anyone who came for the mountain itself
- Getting there
- Car-free resort — train from Täsch or heli to Zermatt

What “fully staffed” actually includes
The phrase is used loosely across the market, so here is the standard these four are held to. As standard: a private chef, a chalet manager, daily housekeeping, a driver for the resort, and concierge cover around the clock. On call rather than resident: spa therapists, a sommelier, ski guides and instructors, and childcare.
Two things worth settling before you sign. First, how many meals the chef covers — breakfast and dinner is the common model, with lunch on the mountain, and a full-board week is a different arrangement. Second, whether the driver is dedicated or shared across the property, which decides whether the group can split up in the afternoon. Both go in the proposal in writing, not the small print. The wider standard is set out in our fully staffed villas collection.
Arrivals, honestly
- Verbier — Geneva is the practical airport, around two hours by road in normal conditions and longer on a Saturday in high season. Sion is the private-aviation option, about an hour away. Helicopter transfers into Verbier are accepted for both Dent Blanche and Vicuña.
- Zermatt — car-free. Drive or fly to the valley, then the train from Täsch, or take a helicopter to the Zermatt heliport. Build the change of transport into the first and last day rather than treating it as a detail.
- French Alps — Geneva again for most of the region, with Chambéry and Grenoble useful depending on the valley. A private landing zone near Domaine de l’Orme can be arranged subject to local permits.
Saturday is the worst transfer day of the week everywhere in the Alps, because the whole industry changes over at once. Where the calendar allows it, a Sunday or midweek arrival is a materially better first day.
The festive collection is where the season’s remaining weeks sit — Alpine and Caribbean both, updated as houses release.
Questions we actually get
When is the best time to ski if we are flexible?
Mid-January for snow and quiet, late March for long days and value. Late December to mid-March is the reliable span; the festive fortnight is the most expensive and least available two weeks of it, and the skiing is no better than January’s.
How far ahead do we need to book?
Twelve to fourteen months for a named flagship over Christmas or New Year. Six to nine months for January and early February. Nine to twelve for half-term and Easter, because school dates concentrate demand. Shorter notice is worth asking about — houses release when other people’s plans change, and that is most of what our week-to-week availability is made of.
Are these chalets suitable for young children?
Yes, and they differ. Domaine de l’Orme and Dent Blanche both have children’s bunk suites; Dent Blanche and McKinley both have internal lifts, which matters more with a pushchair than people expect; McKinley has a playroom. Pool alarms, stair gates and ski-school liaison are arranged on request rather than assumed.
Can we arrive by helicopter?
Verbier accepts heli transfers, so Dent Blanche and Vicuña are straightforward. McKinley guests land at Zermatt’s heliport. For Domaine de l’Orme a private landing zone near the house can be arranged, subject to local permits — which are worth confirming early rather than late.
What is included, and what is extra?
Chef, chalet manager, housekeeping, driver and concierge are standard. Meals beyond the agreed board, spa treatments, guiding, childcare, lift passes and equipment are typically additional. Every inclusion and exclusion is confirmed in writing before you commit — see our concierge services for how the planning runs.
Is a chalet better value than a five-star hotel?
For six people and up, usually yes — and the comparison is not really about money. You get the whole house, its spa, its kitchen and its staff, without a lobby, a set breakfast time, or your party split across floors. Below six, a suite in a good hotel is often the more sensible answer, and we will say so.
