Pengilly House
Description
Pengilly House is an architectural masterpiece designed by Peerutin architects, refining the John Lautner vision and work during the seventies, up and down the west coast of America. John created expansive, lateral concrete properties, often perched on clifftops with spectacular views, these homes were often the backdrop for many movies, including Bond films and the home of Iron Man. That is the vision of Pengilly House and that is also the result, you, in fact, will feel like you are entering the world of Tony Stark mixed with James Bond.
Pengilly House is located on Nettleton Ridge, Clifton, one of the most exclusive residential areas in Cape Town if not in the world, where innovative modern contemporary design and high level of accessories and décor are the highlights of the homes in this area.
The villa project needed to be split into two wings due to the large existing rock formations and to maximize the 270 degree views. The lower levels feature a spacious garage, an indoor pool and an office, the upper levels feature two disc-shaped entertainment spaces with raked glass windows. The interior and outdoor areas are well integrated giving that feeling to bring the outside in.
The owners gave the last touches furnishing and finishing the house with five materials that they like: smoky glass, copper, Brazilian rosewood, white terrazzo and flamed Kalahari sandstone.
Two lifts and a glass-floored passage connect the different areas.
