Villa Guacamaya

Villa Guacamaya takes almost four acres of Playa Juanillo, inside the gates of Cap Cana, sand included. Two wings of glass and shifting angles hold nine bedrooms, every one facing the sea, and a salt-purified pool more than 60 metres long runs between the house and the beach. Two flamingos live on the reflecting pond.

Nine bedrooms sleep eighteen, with eleven full bathrooms and three half baths, and the whole estate goes to a single booking. We’d put it forward for three generations travelling together, a milestone birthday or a board meeting by the water. Of the villas in Punta Cana we place, it’s the one for a group of eighteen that doesn’t want to feel like one.

THE ESTATE

Roughly 5,400 square metres sit under roof (about 58,000 square feet). In the middle is a grand salon with a black grand piano and a billiards table, used as an events lobby; each wing has its own dining room, with four kitchens behind them (two for the chefs, two for prep). Add a cinema room, an office with a meeting room and three pool terraces. An elevator serves the floors, the power is solar, and Sonos carries music from the rooms to the pool.

THE SUITES

Four of the nine bedrooms are primary suites. Three sit in sequence in one wing: the most open looks at ocean, beach and pool at once, with a soaking tub, a terrace hot tub and two dressing rooms; the next has its own hot tub; the third is at ground level, no stairs between bed and sand. In the garden wing the fourth suite sits beside the pool with five more bedrooms around it, three with a king bed and two with a pair of queens each (where we’d put the children). Every bedroom has its own bathroom, a terrace, a minibar, a safe and a smart TV.

THE WATER AND THE SPA

Both pools are salt-purified: the long one for proper lengths, the second a thalassotherapy pool with hydromassage jets fed from the ground, with a heated jacuzzi beside it. Indoors the spa has a sauna, a Turkish steam bath, an aromatherapy shower and a massage room opening onto a garden. After dark, the firepit. And the private beach is a few steps past the palms.

THE GROUNDS

Beyond the pools: a paddle tennis court among the palms, a court for tennis and basketball, a gym, kayaks, ping-pong, bicycles and a six-seat golf cart for the estate and the rest of Cap Cana. Terraced gardens with fountains, a macaw garden, a gazebo and shaded palapas by the pool, beach chairs and towels on the sand. Beach club access comes with the house; golf privileges at the nearby courses are optional.

THE SERVICE

A chef and sous chef cook, three waiters serve, and two or three housekeepers clean daily, depending on numbers. A butler, a gardener, a concierge and 24-hour security complete the team, housed in their own quarters. Check-in happens at the villa, and a private transfer from Punta Cana International is included. On request through the concierge: nannies, transport, tours and culinary experiences.

THE LOCATION

Cap Cana is a gated community about ten minutes from Punta Cana International Airport, home to Marina Cap Cana (superyachts up to 250 feet), the Jack Nicklaus course at Punta Espada and the new nine at Las Iguanas.
