Mykonos is not a huge island however it features two different areas that have also many contrasts. Mykonos has many great restaurants, cafés, night clubs and shops that are located in the center a bit further from the beaches. Mykonos welcomes an array of all types of tourists that choose this island to enjoy the sun and many also the privacy of a villa. There are many Mykonos villas to choose from and each of them has a different style and offers different characteristics.
Near or in Mykonos Town is where everything happens in Mykonos or you can choose the other two places Super Paradise Beach (with its famous beach bar) and the famous club Cavo Paradiso. (Google Maps)
These are the places in Mykonos where you will find restaurants and shops. There are other small towns with cute local taverns like Ano Mera and beautiful beach resorts like Elia Beach or Agios Ioannis where there are great beach bars and restaurants, but this where you want to stay if you prefer a more relaxed vacation.
Paradise Beach is where you’re most likely to spot a celebrity on the island, a luxury spot with beach bars and clubs, DJ sets, and cocktails. Lined with luxury accommodation and exclusive villas, the whole area feels glamorous and fun. This is the place to party until the early hours then get up to work on your suntan. There are hourly shuttles to the city which run into the night and you can also use the boat taxis to go to other beaches easily.
Mykonos Town is OK for you if:
– you want to be close to the nightlife, the shops and the restaurants
– you will be moving around with Mykonos buses and you won’t have a car
– you don’t care about the beaches and swimming
If you are looking to stay in a quiet area you should stay in Ornos
Ornos is a popular neighbourhood and a perfect location for you if you are looking to be close to the busier ares of the island but you want to enjoy adventure-based activities and beaches. Just 2km outside of Mykonos Town, Kitesurfers will have a great time in Ornos Village due to the strong winds and beach lovers will be spoiled for choice are several beaches within walking distance. There’s also plenty of Greek restaurants, cafes, bars, and a range of accommodation to choose from. An ideally located area for visitors who want it all.
You should stay near Platys Gialos if…
If you’re here for Mykonos’s famous sandy coves and white sand beaches, this might be the area for you. Platys Gialos, which can be found on the south of the island, is one of the most popular beaches for tourists but the area also benefits from being close to Agia Anna Beach and Paraga beach so you can take your pick! This sound it is great if you like to enjoy the water activities including water skiing, fishing, and sailing plus plenty of bars and restaurants to enjoy when you get back. Located only seven minutes from the airport.
Elia Beach – Explore the most beautiful beaches
A great luxury vacation spot, known for its coveted spots and exclusive feeling. It’s an off-the-beaten-track on the southern coast with boutique hotels and luxury villas, private beaches, spacious apartments and hidden places to explore.
