Where to spend Christmas 2026 in the Caribbean
For a Christmas villa vacation in 2026, choose Turks and Caicos or Anguilla for calm water and quiet beaches, St Barts for the life of the season, Barbados for formal service on the west coast, St Martin for French-side beaches and restaurants, and Punta Cana for gated estates with golf and beach clubs. Christmas Day falls on a Friday, so Christmas week runs from Saturday 19 to Saturday 26 December. Every house we offer for the holidays is in our Christmas and New Year villa rentals, and the islands are in our Caribbean villa rentals.

Barbados · Holetown, west coast · 10 bedrooms · 20 guests
A private beach, a 75-foot pool and a team of nineteen: a manager, butlers, chefs, maids, gardeners and security. Fully staffed, and rented only a few weeks a year.
Le Chateau des Palmiers
St Martin · Plum Bay, Terres Basses · 10 bedrooms · 20 guests
Two villas on the beach at Plum Bay, inside a gated enclave, with a heated pool and a tennis court. Fully staffed: a chef for three meals a day and housekeeping seven days a week.
Villa Guacamaya
Punta Cana · Cap Cana · 9 bedrooms · 18 guests
Almost four acres of Playa Juanillo and a pool more than 60 meters long. Fully staffed: a chef and a sous chef, three waiters, a butler and security around the clock, with the airport transfer included.
Each is listed for Christmas and New Year 2026–27. Availability moves daily, so we confirm every house with its owner before we send it.
A Caribbean Christmas in a private villa is a different holiday from a Christmas at a resort. The tree stands in your own living room, the chef cooks Christmas Eve dinner for your family alone, and the beach is a few steps from the bedrooms. It also asks for more planning, because the houses that suit a family Christmas are few on every island and the holiday weeks carry their own rules.
Christmas 2026: the week and the rules
Christmas Day falls on a Friday this year, so the Saturday-to-Saturday Christmas week runs from 19 to 26 December, and New Year’s week from 26 December to 2 January. Many owners sell the two weeks as one block, and the holiday weeks carry each house’s longest minimum stay: usually seven nights, often more at the most requested houses. On St Barts, Villa Fabrizia is rented whole over the December holidays, however many bedrooms the party uses.
Our own bookings bear this out. Of the eight Christmas and New Year contracts we have signed for 2026, five are for seven nights; the longest is thirteen, from Christmas week through New Year.
Is it too late for Christmas 2026?
No, but the choice narrows every week. Half of our Christmas and New Year contracts for 2026 were signed in October, between 60 and 86 days before arrival, which says two things at once: the most requested houses went months ago, and good houses were still being confirmed late in the season.
| Signed in 2026 | Holiday contracts | Where |
|---|---|---|
| April | 1 | St Martin, Anse Marcel |
| August | 2 | Anguilla, Little Harbour; the Riviera Maya, Tankah |
| September | 1 | St Martin, Terres Basses |
| October | 4 | Turks and Caicos, North Shore; Puntacana Resort and Club; Isla Mujeres; Punta Mita, on the Pacific |
If your dates can move, they decide more than the island does: Christmas week and the quiet week from 2 January have more room than New Year’s week. If the whole fortnight is fixed, tell us the island and the size of the party first, and we will tell you within a day what is still open. For Christmas 2027, the window to plan is nine to twelve months ahead, between December 2026 and March 2027.
The six islands at Christmas, and how each one celebrates
If the island is still undecided, our guide to the best Caribbean island for Christmas compares them on staff, holiday minimum stays and the journey. In short:
Turks and Caicos
Calm, shallow water inside the reef, long beaches on Grace Bay and Long Bay, and nonstop flights to Providenciales from many US cities, about two hours from Miami. The island for three generations and a first Caribbean Christmas. The houses are in our Turks and Caicos villa rentals. Read more: New Year’s in Turks and Caicos.
At Christmas: on Boxing Day, 26 December, Grace Bay Road closes in central Grace Bay for Maskanoo, a free street festival with food stalls, junkanoo bands from about 9 p.m. and fireworks.
St Barts
The center of the season: harbor dinners in Gustavia, the beach clubs of St-Jean and the New Year fireworks over the port. Most guests from the United States fly to St Maarten or San Juan and continue on a small plane. The houses are in our St Barts villa rentals. Read more: Christmas week or New Year’s week on St Barts.
At Christmas: the Christmas village fills the forecourt of the Wall House and the Collectivité in Gustavia on the weekends of early and mid-December, and at midnight on New Year’s Eve the fireworks go up above Fort Oscar while the yachts in the harbor sound their horns.
Anguilla
Long beaches, no cruise port, and a Christmas that stays quiet. American flies nonstop from Miami, and from mid-December there are nonstop flights from Boston, Newark and Baltimore-Washington; many guests still fly to St Martin and cross by boat. The houses are in our Anguilla villa rentals. Read more: where to stay in Anguilla for the holidays.
At Christmas: the island lights its tree in The Valley, the last two weeks of December are the busiest of its year, and New Year’s Eve, which Anguillians call Old Year’s Night, is a night of long dinners.
Barbados
The calm Platinum Coast on the west side, from Sandy Lane and Holetown, where large houses stand on the beach near the restaurants, to the long beaches of St Peter; about four hours nonstop from Miami. The houses are in our Barbados villas. Read more: where Barbados is, and how to get there.
At Christmas: after early church on Christmas morning, Barbadians in their finest clothes gather in Queen’s Park in Bridgetown for music and choirs, a tradition begun by the island’s police in 1907; at home the table holds jug-jug and black cake.
St Martin
Two nations on one island, the beaches of Terres Basses and the restaurants of the French side, with nonstop flights to the island from New York, Miami, Atlanta and Charlotte. The houses are in our St Martin villas.
At Christmas: on the French side the Collectivité lights the tree on the Marigot waterfront in early December, and its Christmas serenades move from district to district, from Oyster Pond to Sandy Ground, on the evenings that follow.
Punta Cana
Gated estates in Cap Cana and Puntacana Resort and Club, with golf, beach clubs and nonstop flights from most large US cities. The houses are in our Punta Cana villas. Read more: the best time to visit Punta Cana.
At Christmas: the Dominican season peaks at Nochebuena, the family dinner of 24 December before midnight mass; carolers go from house to house with tambora, accordion and güira, and children receive their presents on Three Kings Day, 6 January.
What a Christmas week in a staffed villa includes
The staff are the holiday. In a staffed house the chef cooks Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for your party alone, the butler sets the table for the size of the evening, and the housekeepers keep the house ready while you are on the beach. Two things are worth settling before you pay: who works on the holidays themselves, and at what hours, because some houses give their teams time off on the feast days; and what the chef cooks, because groceries and wine are usually charged on top of the rate.
For every Christmas week we set out the staff, their hours on 24, 25 and 31 December and 1 January, the minimum stay and any event or music rules of the house, before you pay anything. For a Christmas with friends coming to dinner, we ask the owner first.

Half of the Christmas and New Year contracts Haute Retreats signed for 2026 were signed in October, between 60 and 86 days before arrival, in Turks and Caicos, in Puntacana Resort and Club, on Isla Mujeres and in Punta Mita. Flexible dates help most: Christmas week and the week from 2 January have more room than New Year’s week.
What dates is Christmas week 2026?
Christmas Day 2026 falls on a Friday, so the Saturday-to-Saturday Christmas week runs from 19 to 26 December, and New Year’s week from 26 December to 2 January. Many houses sell the two weeks as one block.
How long is the minimum stay for a Caribbean villa at Christmas?
Usually seven nights, often longer at the most requested houses, and some rent the whole house over the holidays whatever the number of bedrooms used. Five of the eight Christmas and New Year contracts we signed for 2026 are for seven nights; the longest is thirteen.
What is there to do in the Caribbean at Christmas?
Each island keeps its own traditions. In Turks and Caicos, Maskanoo fills Grace Bay Road with junkanoo bands, food stalls and fireworks on Boxing Day, 26 December. In Barbados, Christmas morning ends in Queen’s Park in Bridgetown, with music and the island in its best clothes. On St Barts, the fireworks of New Year’s Eve go up above Fort Oscar at midnight, and in the Dominican Republic children receive their presents on Three Kings Day, 6 January.
What is the weather like in the Caribbean at Christmas?
Late December is the start of the dry season, with warm days, cooler evenings and calm water on sheltered beaches such as Grace Bay. The Atlantic hurricane season ends on 30 November.
When should I book a Caribbean villa for Christmas 2027?
Nine to twelve months ahead, between December 2026 and March 2027, for the most requested houses on the most requested islands. The same applies to New Year’s week, which is often sold together with Christmas.
