The best places to go for New Years 2026–27, if the brief is a private house with staff rather than a hotel ballroom, are St Barts, Turks and Caicos, Costa Rica, Los Cabos, Punta Cana, Tulum and Courchevel 1850. Each pairs a visible festive atmosphere with the thing a hotel cannot give you at midnight.

The negative surprise is almost always logistical. Festive weeks carry longer minimum stays, stricter event rules, limited car supply and heavier airport congestion, and the most successful bookings in this window are rarely the most spontaneous. So the dates come first.

New Year’s Eve falls on a Thursday this year. Across the Virtuoso network, September sales were up 77% on last year and November rose by more than 70%, with festive-season bookings up 65% ( Spear’s , August 2026). The window is pulling forward, and the staffed houses that suit a festive group are the first to go.

St Barts — yacht-season glamour
St Barts is the choice if you want festive polish by night and villa privacy by day. Peak season runs from December to April and the New Year week is its centre: the harbour fills with yachts, the restaurants of Gustavia and St Jean run their best menus of the year, and the fireworks over the port are watched from terraces across the island.

Turks and Caicos is the answer if your ideal festive week is sunny, low-friction and chef-led. Los Cabos is the answer if you want dramatic views, quick arrival logistics and homes built for entertaining. Punta Cana — fully staffed family stays
Punta Cana is the choice if your group wants easy beach weather, golf and a home that behaves like a private resort. This is the destination for multigenerational groups because the layout logic is usually right: bunk rooms, large lawns, golf-cart access, in-villa chef programmes and enough bedrooms to keep grandparents, children and friends comfortable at once. Tulum is the answer if you want festive energy, striking design and a more bohemian luxury mood. The destination performs best for groups that value atmosphere and architecture and a schedule that moves easily between yoga, beach time, mezcal-led dinners and late-night plans.
Soliman Bay and Tankah are better for travelers who want quiet and space, and larger fully staffed beachfront compounds such as Cenote Del Mar sit there; closer-in Tulum suits guests who want to feel the Riviera Maya pulse directly. That matters, because Tulum can be one of the best places to go for New Years or one of the most exhausting, depending on whether your villa buffers the scene correctly.

Courchevel 1850 — alpine glamour

The ski area generally opens on the first Saturday of December and runs to the third week of April, so the late-December window is one of the prime chalet periods of every winter; confirm the exact 2026–27 operating dates before booking. Slopeside access matters more than almost anything else, because walking in ski boots at year-end quickly becomes the wrong kind of memory. Courchevel solves for atmosphere in a completely different way from a beach trip: here, luxury is warm lighting, a sauna after skiing, children returning from lessons and dinner at home while snow falls beyond the terrace. What decides a festive-week rate, and what to watch
The seven destinations sit across very different bands, so the useful question is not which is cheapest but what each festive-week dollar buys. Four things move the number, and every quote sets all of them out in writing before you commit.
- The week itself. 26 December to 2 January carries each house’s longest minimum stay, usually seven nights and often ten to fourteen at the most requested houses; many owners sell a fixed festive block that has to be taken whole. One Turks and Caicos example, Villa Solarah , carries a ten-night minimum from 26 December 2026 to 7 January 2027.
- The staffing included. A chef and butler in the rate changes the total far more than a bedroom count, and “fully staffed” means different things from one villa to the next, especially around chef hours, food cost, butler hours and holiday surcharges. We state it per house.
- The frontage and the length of stay. Beachfront, fairway, hillside or slopeside, and seven nights against fourteen. Government tax and service are added to villa rates and stated per house; food and beverage usually sit outside them.
- Event and sound rules. A villa built for leisure is not always licensed or configured for external guests, amplified music or formal events. Ask before the invitations go out.
- Calendars and climate. Courchevel typically runs from early December into April, but confirm the season dates; Costa Rica’s dry season is favourable at year-end, but conditions shift by coast, elevation and forest cover.

Where is the best place to go for New Years with a family?
Punta Cana and Turks and Caicos, for the same reason: calm swimmable water, gated communities and houses with the staff and the bedroom count for three generations. Costa Rica’s Papagayo peninsula is the choice when the family wants activity as well as the beach.
When should I book a villa for New Year 2026–27?
Now. St Barts is reached by a short connecting flight from St Maarten or San Juan, and Courchevel by Geneva or Lyon with a private transfer or helicopter.
