The Best Places to Travel in July 2027, From the Lavender of Provence to Crop Over in Barbados

The best places to travel in July are the ones where July is the right month, not merely a warm one: Provence for the lavender, Tuscany for the Palio and the long evenings, Mallorca and Hvar for a warm sea, Malibu for dry days on the Pacific, and Bali for its drier months. Los Cabos, Tulum and Barbados are hotter and quieter in July, early in the hurricane season, and suit a family that wants warm water and the house to itself. 1. Provence: the lavender weeks

Lavender in Provence flowers from late June to early August and is at its fullest in July. On the Valensole plateau the harvest begins around July 15; around Sault it can run on to mid-August. Avignon averages highs of 84°F (29°C) in July, with eleven hours of sunshine a day and about five days with any rain. Bastide de St Martin

Luberon, near Apt · 12 bedrooms · sleeps 24

A bastide on two and a half hectares at the foot of the Grand Luberon, between Apt and Manosque, with terraces facing the Luberon and a heated pool with a lavender field beyond it. The Valensole plateau lies on the far side of Manosque. Avignon’s TGV station is 66 kilometers away, Marseille airport 104. In the Alpilles, Mas Santoline has six bedrooms for twelve guests, five minutes by car from Eygalières and ten from Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, with breakfast and five hours of housekeeping every day.

Siena runs the first of its two Palio races on July 2, around the Piazza del Campo, with ten of the city’s seventeen contrade riding bareback; the second follows on August 16. Villa Le Masse

Panzano in Chianti · 6 bedrooms · sleeps 12

A stone house among the vineyards and olive groves of Panzano, with an infinity pool facing the Chianti hills and a courtyard around a wood-fired pizza oven, 1.4 kilometers from the shops of the village. For the Palio, Villa Cetinale, a seventeenth-century villa 14 kilometers from Siena, is fully staffed for 27 guests in thirteen bedrooms, with a chef for every meal, waiters and a porter, and a seven-night minimum.

5. Malibu: dry days on the Pacific

July in Malibu is warm rather than hot: highs around 73°F (23°C), lows of 61°F (16°C), and the sky overcast or mostly cloudy only about 11 percent of the time. The July calendar to check before you book

• The Fourth of July. Independence Day falls on Sunday, July 4, 2027, and is observed on Monday, July 5. Like every holiday week, it is one we advise booking nine to twelve months ahead.
• The Palio. The Palio di Provenzano runs in Siena on Friday, July 2; the Palio dell’Assunta on August 16.
• Lavender. In flower from late June; the harvest on the Valensole plateau starts around July 15, so to see those fields in bloom, go in the first half of the month.
• Hurricane seasons. The Atlantic season opens on June 1 and the eastern Pacific season on May 15; both peak later, in late August and September.
• Crop Over. Grand Kadooment closes the festival on Monday, August 2, 2027.
• Lead time. Nine to twelve months ahead for July, as for all of June to September: for July 2027, that window is open now.
